Head of School Report:11/15/16
General Information:

  • The school has just completed two separate trainings to support our data driven instruction and lesson differentiation

    • Atlantic Research Partners has completed our first round of NWEA training and analysis. They will be returning throughout the year to support teachers with data analysis, setting student growth targets, and developing lesson plans to help differentiate instruction based on the data.

    • “Think Cerca” training, which has exposed teachers to a wide variety of content rich, lexiled resources for reading across the subject areas. This can be used to help differentiate for leveled readers and provides resources for grades 3-8.

    • The school has held its first award ceremony. The ongoing goal is to celebrate student success and continue to build a culture of student achievement and peer support. Many thanks to Ms. McKaskill for spearheading this event.

    • The Middle School is focusing on several service learning opportunities including a coat drive and a canned food drive.

Programs

  • Our school wide investment in Science continues as all General Studies teachers will attend the Hall of Science for a training day on Election Day. This will kick start a series of fieldtrips to the Hall of Science for each grade level across the school. Workshops are linked to the science units of study for each grade.

  • Our Israeli Dance program has started. This covers k-7. K-2 includes whole class and 3-7 is an opt-in program held during recess.

  • Playworks has helped us to institute “Class Game Time”, which is a program that is designed to build classroom social culture through interactions and positive play-based activities. This is a rotating program that will promote community, cohesiveness, and cooperation amongst our student body.

  • Morah Gal has instituted a student percussion ensemble. The group had its premiere performances at our Academic Awards ceremonies on 11/4. In the spirit of our charter, the instruction is in Hebrew, meshing the languages of music and Hebrew.
