In January 1951, responsibility for the CORPORAL missile was transferred to the Redstone Arsenal. This was the first tactical missile system under the authority of the Army at Redstone Arsenal. In its first function, the Redstone Arsenal Board of Awards gave JPL a contract for the complete development of the Corporal system. In June 1951, Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was awarded a contract for the production of Corporal Systems. Redstone Arsenal established a Technical and Engineering Division in August 1951. A Technical Library was opened for maintaining the related reports.
