Details of rookie contract courtesy of Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com
Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com: Flowers' five-year extension is worth $48.75 million in "new" money, with $11 million fully guaranteed, another $11 million that is currently guaranteed for injury only, and $1.25 million in escalators that can potentially increase the value of the contract to $50 million. Flowers received a $10 million signing bonus and his $600,000 base salary in 2011 was increased to $1.025 million for the final 16 weeks of the regular season. The prorated amounts (1/17th of his original rate plus 16/17ths of his adjusted rate) result in a $1 million base salary, which is fully guaranteed. Next season, Flowers is due to earn a $5.75 million base salary, which is guaranteed for injury only. If Flowers is on the roster on the second day of the 2012 waiver period, the full amount will become guaranteed for skill and cap. Flowers is scheduled to make $7.35 million in base salary in 2013, $5.25 million of which is currently guaranteed for injury only. That $5.25 million amount will become guaranteed for skill and cap if Flowers is on the roster on the second day of the 2013 waiver period, bringing the guaranteed amount to $22 million. Flowers' base salaries in the final three years of the deal are $5.25 million (2014), $6.25 million (2015) and $6.5 million (2016), with up to $1.25 million in base salary escalator available for the 2016 season. There are also $2 million reporting bonuses in each of the final three years of the deal, and Flowers is eligible to earn $250,000 workout bonuses from 2012-16.
Brian McIntyre, Yahoo Sports: Flowers restructured his contract. Converted $4M of $7.35M base to a signing bous, clearing $3M in cap space for the Chiefs…

Bob Sherwin, Seattle Times: Grbac, who signed a five-year $20.4 million contract with a $3.5 million signing bonus in March 1997, opened the season as the starter.
Adam Teicher, KC Star: many things can happen between now and next season, when Grbac's base salary jumps from a manageable $500,000 to $3.8 million… Grbac's base salary climbs to $4.8 million in 2000 and $5.8 million in 2001. He can void the final season of his contract.
AP: Having made little progress in talks to restructure the contract of quarterback Elvis Grbac, who will carry a $16.9 million salary cap number under his current deal, the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly are looking hard at trading for St. Louis Rams backup Trent Green… Grbac is scheduled to receive a $10 million roster bonus on March 15.
Adam Teicher, KC Star: Schottenheimer said last week that Grbac, who will make $4.3 million in salary and roster bonuses next year [1999], will be back.

Greg Hall, The Pitch: Green restructured his contract into a new five-year deal worth $29 million. Only $4 million of that contract is guaranteed. If he is still a member of the Chiefs in March, the team will owe him a roster bonus of $8 million.
AP: Green, who was scheduled to receive an $8 million roster bonus Friday, will now have a seven-year contract worth $50 million that includes a $9.5 million signing bonus and $11.25 million in total bonus money. Green, 32, had three seasons remaining on the former contract and was due base salaries of $2 million (2003), $5 million (2004) and $6 million (2005).
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: [Green’s contract] called for him to make $24.1 million in the next three seasons… Green had a 2007 base salary of $7.2 million… His contract in Kansas City was to have paid him $7.7 million in 2008 and $9.2 million in 2009, but Green would not have been around long enough to collect them.

Mike Florio, PFT: Hillis receives a fully-guaranteed base salary of $1.4 million, along with a $1 million fully-guaranteed roster bonus that comes due over the weekend. The only fluff comes from $400,000 in per-game roster bonuses… And so it’s a base deal of $2.6 million, and it’s fully guaranteed.
Aaron Wilson, Scout.com: Hillis' one-year, $3 million deal includes $1.4 million salary, $1.4 million bonus and a $200,000 workout bonus, per a league source

John Clayton, ESPN: He'll make $6.3 million over the first two years of the contract. In 2005, the Chiefs have a $5 million option on Holliday that would keep him through 2007.
John Clayton, ESPN: The Chiefs never got the impact out of defensive end Vonnie Holliday after they signed him to a five-year, $23.25 million contract two years ago. In his first year, Holliday dropped into coverage a lot in zone blitz situations, which didn't please a front office that invested more than $4 million a year to bring him in. Last year, he didn't add much pass rush. By releasing Holliday, the Chiefs saved a much needed $6.225 million in cap space.

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: Priest Holmes, one of the best bang-for-the-back free agent additions in NFL history, is quietly seeking an upgraded new contract. And who can blame the guy? He has certainly outplayed the five-year, $8.45 million deal he signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2001. That deal included a signing bonus of $2 million. Put him on the market now and Holmes might triple that amount. His current contract has three seasons remaining, with salaries of $1.95 million (2003), $2.15 million (2004) and $2.35 million (2005). In addition, there are roster bonuses of $250,000 this year, $300,000 for '04 and $350,000 in '05, along with annual workout bonuses of $50,000.
