THE FRANK CHANEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

INFORMATION SHEET
The Frank Chaney Memorial Scholarship Fund is intended to provide scholarship awards to legal dependents of employees of the Andersen enterprise, who demonstrate artistic ability and wish to enroll in an art-related degree program in a post-secondary educational institution. A $12,000 award will be made annually, paid out at $3,000 a year over four years, subject to conditions of the grant. The winner of The Frank Chaney Memorial Scholarship Award will be announced in May. Applications are due on April 1, 2013.
The Frank Chaney Memorial Scholarship Fund described here is currently available to all high school students with parents employed within the Andersen enterprise.

ELIGIBILITY
The applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:


  • Be a legal dependent of an Andersen enterprise employee. The employee may be active, retired or deceased but have a minimum of 24 months accumulated active employment by the Andersen enterprise at the time of the annual announcement of award winners in May. More than one child per family may apply for and/or receive awards from the Fund.




  • Be a public, private or home schooled high school senior to be graduated in the current school year.




  • Have applied to or been accepted as a full-time student at an accredited college or university and intend on gaining a degree in an art-related program, preferably the visual arts.




  • Have successfully completed a minimum of one year as a student in an art program of his/her respective high school.




  • Have a minimum overall high school G.P.A. of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and a G.P.A. of 3.0 in the art curriculum. Extenuating circumstances may be considered, however, if G.P.A. falls below this point.




  • Submit the following application materials by the deadline date:




  • Scholarship Application Form




  • Personal statement of educational and artistic goals




  • Two recommendations




  • Portfolio of no more than eight works of art (see Scholarship Application Form for description of artwork required)


SELECTION


  • The Frank Chaney Memorial Scholarship Fund Advisory Committee reviews all scholarship materials and makes recommendations to The St. Croix Valley Foundation regarding the annual scholarship recipient.




  • The primary consideration in the selection process is exceptional artistic ability as demonstrated by the materials in the applicant's portfolio.



APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Applicant distributes the two attached Recommendation Forms, requesting that the individuals providing the recommendations submit the forms as outlined on or before April 1, 2013.

All materials should be neatly typed. Supplementary materials should be clearly labeled and attached to the Scholarship Application Form. Each piece of the Portfolio should be photographed for submission, in PDF format, on a disc that is clearly labeled with the applicant’s name, address and telephone number plus additional relevant information noted in the Portfolio description.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Please attach a statement (not to exceed two typewritten, double-spaced pages) of your educational plans and artistic goals as they relate to you personally and to your career goals. Include motivating factors or important experiences which have helped to shape your personal philosophy and/or your educational plans and/ or career goals. Think carefully about this statement. It is very important in the selection process.

PORTFOLIO
Submit a formal portfolio of no more than eight works of art/design. This portfolio will be photographs of the work, NOT the actual pieces, in PDF format, on a disc, clearly labeled with the student’s name. Image one must be a drawing (using any medium) done from a set-up still life subject matter. Do not work from a photograph. Image two must be a self-portrait (personal interpretation) depicted in any medium or combination of media, from drawing to two-dimensional or three-dimensional design concepts. The remaining six works should best represent the applicant's artistic strengths. Drawing, prints, paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, sculpture, interior design renderings, architectural design and graphic design are acceptable portfolio submissions.
Images of all should be submitted, (not the actual piece of art) in PDF format, on a disc. Each image should be labeled with: artist's name, media, dimensions L-W-H, and date of work. Indicate top of image with an arrow. The still life drawing and self-portrait submissions should be identified on the labels of the works. Include a corresponding list of images with the portfolio.
The portfolio on a disc must be delivered to the St. Croix Valley Foundation on or before April 1, 2013.
Note to applicant: Your application will not be considered unless all materials related to this application, including the (1) Application Form, (2) Personal Statement, (3) two Recommenda­tion Forms, and (4) Portfolio are received on or before April 1, 2013.
