3. PROJECT PLAN
3.1 Methodology
3.1.1 Requirement specification
System Overview

The system shall bean A Smart Internet of Things (IoT) enabled System for Home Energy Management, Control and Automation that monitors and controls energy consumption in a home. The system shall be able to measure the energy consumption of individual appliances and provide real-time feedback to the user.
Hardware Requirements

The system shall include an Arduino board that is capable of connecting to the user’s phone. The system shall include sensors to measure energy consumption, including current meters and Energy meters. The system shall include a power supply to provide power to the Arduino board and sensors.
Software Requirements

The system shall include software to read sensor data and process it for analysis. The system shall include algorithms to control and manage energy consumption. The system shall be able to communicate with other devices over Bluetooth and
GSM.
User Interface

The system shall include an android based user interface that displays real-time energy consumption data. The user interface shall provide an overview of energy consumption for the entire home as well as some individual appliances. The user interface shall allow the user to set energy consumption limits and receive alerts when those limits are exceeded.
Performance Requirements

The system shall be able to measure energy consumption with a high degree of accuracy. The system shall be able to communicate with other devices quickly and reliably.

3.1.2 Project Planning and Research
This will involve close interaction with homeowners and other people that stay in Ugandan homes to get to know what the electrical energy usage situation is in the average Ugandan household. Information on aspects such as power wastage will be obtained. We shall as well get to know whether they believe this system will be beneficial to their respective households. Other relevant information shall be obtained as well. For this we intend to utilize both physical paper questionnaires and online tools such as Google forms. Will shall the use research to Define the scope and objectives of the project. Research existing home energy management systems and their components. Identify the sensors and actuators required for the system. Determine the hardware and software requirements for the project. Develop a project plan and timeline.
