On April 19, 1935, Earhart made another record-setting flight from Los Angeles to Mexico City on April 19. To commemorate the occasion, the Mexican government issued a 20 cent Mexican airmail stamp overprinted with “Amelia Earhart vuelo/de bueno voluntad/Mexico/1935.” This translated to “Amelia Earhart, Good Will Flight, Mexico, 1935.” Unfortunately, only several hundred were printed, two thirds of which were secured by G. P. Putnam. The philatelic world was not pleased when they learned how few of the stamps would be available to collectors. The 1935 overprint is now a highly sought, expensive philatelic item.
