2453 AUST WWI KIA Military Medal (EVR) to "5104 Sgt. J.W. Harris 4/Aust: Pr BN". Sergeant John Harris enlisted 26/1/16. Embarked with the 6th Inf. Bn. to 4 Pnr Bn and operations France/Flanders from July 1916 inc. Pozieres, Messines, Zonnebeke, Dernancourt and Villers Brettoneux. Attached to Tunneling COY March-June 1918. KIA 6/8/18 during the advance on Bray. Awarded the Military Medal on recommendation as follows: "On the Night of 8th July 1918 at Vaire Wood near Corbie, Sgt Harris was in charge of a Working Party in an exposed position. On the opening of a sudden and heavy barrage, several of his men became casualties. Sgt Harris showed conspicuous bravery and complete disregard of personal safety in getting those wounded under cover, and by his example keeping his men steady - thereby minimising Casualties and enabling the work to be completed. 2457 AUST WWI Twice W.I.A DOW, 1914/15 Star to "2157 Pte G. Thomas 16th Bn. AIF". Enlisted AIF 20/4/15 after deserting from the Royal Navy (previously served 11 years). Operations on Gallipoli with the 16th Bn near Lone Pine from July 1915. Wounded in action near Lone Pine with multiple shrapnel wounds. Evacuated, rejoined unit. To 48th Bn. Operations France and Flanders near Flers from June 1916, then Pozieres. WIA (second time), 6/8/16, then died of wounds 7/8/16. Comes with research notes. Grade gVF. $350
