NATO PRESENTED AT EUROVILLAGE EVENT IN GANJA


The Romanian Embassy, which fulfills the mandate of NATO Contact Point Embassy to Azerbaijan for the fourth time in a row, organized a NATO presentation stand at EuroVillage event in Ganja on June 11.

The EuroVillage event has been held in Heydar Aliyev Park by the delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan in cooperation with the embassies of European Union member states and in partnership with the Executive Power of Ganja.

The NATO presentation stand was part of the public diplomacy efforts done by the Romanian embassy with a view to disseminate information about NATO agenda in the light of the summit to be held on July 8-9, 2016 in Warsaw.

The EU is regularly invited to attend NATO summits. European Council President, Donald Tusk, European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, and High Representative Federica Mogherini will represent the European Union at the Warsaw summit.

The European Union is a unique and essential partner for NATO. Both organizations share common values. North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union now have 22 member countries in common.

As a NATO and EU member, Romania actively supports Azerbaijan to enhance its relations with the European and Euro-Atlantic institutions.

Romania, which has been the second country in the world to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence, considers that Baku is a reliable and highly valued partner of the North-Atlantic Alliance.

Romania acts in the position of a NATO member that can share its recent experience of Euro-Atlantic integration, presenting best practices and providing expertise on the implementation of reforms in the security and defense sector in accordance to NATO standards. Romanian diplomatic mission in Baku started its 1st NATO Contact Point Embassy mandate in Azerbaijan in January 2009 and nowadays is already performing its 4th successive mandate. Embassy of Romania operates as a channel for disseminating information in Azerbaijan about the role and policies of the North-Atlantic Alliance. Within its activity Romanian diplomatic mission pays a constant attention to promotion of Euro-Atlantic values, principles and standards in Azerbaijan.

A large public, including the head of Executive Power of Ganja, Elmar Veliyev, visited the NATO presentation stand organized by Romanian diplomatic mission. NATO promotional materials have been widely distributed.

Azerbaijan's Defence Minister met with the Commandant of the NATO Defence College Major General Janusz Bojarski

Defence Minister of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with the Commandant of the NATO Defence College Major General Janusz Bojarski paying visit to our country.

Welcoming the guest, Minister of Defence informed him about the military-political situation in the region, the Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its consequences, as well as about the current operational situation on the line of confrontation of troops.

Minister spoke about the program of military cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO, in particular on the achieved interoperability between the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and the NATO members and partners, and also about the Azerbaijan's contribution to Resolute Support mission, conducted by NATO in Afghanistan.

Defence Minister thanked the guest for his support of the Azerbaijan's Armed Forces Military Academy within the framework of the "Defence Education Enhancement Programme".

In turn, Major General J.Boyarski, informed the Minister of Defence on the activities of the Defence College and expressed his satisfaction with the visit.

On behalf of members of the delegation he thanked the Defence Minister for the warm reception and organization of meetings in various structures, and mentioned the importance of courses organized by the Defence College. Noting that the majority members of the delegation, consisting of 120 representatives from 31 countries, occupy strategic positions in the field of defence and security, he emphasized the importance of such visits in terms of the mutual exchange of experience.
