If the noise level is high enough to distract the Conference the following steps may be taken to minimize or eliminate the effect:

• 
  The noise source may be examined to determine if it can be reduced or eliminated
  
• 
  The FS-03 has presets that adjust the equalization to address acoustically challenging rooms
  

• 
  People may cause unwanted noise that will interfere with the intended voice transmission during a conference. These noises may be such things as paper shuffling, pen or keyboard tapping, side conversations etc. The FS-03 system has several techniques for minimizing these distractions:
  
  • 
    The FS-03 provides automatic gating of microphones so the number of open microphones is reduced. Only those microphones close to the intended speaker will be on
    
  • 
    Presets are provided for presenter/audience environments that allow the presenter only transmission and can be switched to open the entire room for question and answer sessions.
    

Activation of these modes may be as simple as a switch on a wall plate connected to the FS-03 (logic inputs) or through a control system (RS-232).

Reverberation is the reflected sound that exists in a room after the sound source has stopped. Reducing the amount of reverberation transmitted to the distant end is also important in maintaining good intelligibility. A room should have an RT60 of less than 0.6 seconds for good intelligibility.
