Karin Gamache, a teacher at Freeport Middle School and coach of the Freeport Middle School Future Problem Solvers Team 2006, for her outstanding leadership and dedication. Ms. Gamache led her students to winning the district championship and to the worldwide competition held at the 2006 International Conference at Colorado State University. Priscilla Payne, of Windham, on her retirement as the Director of Gray Public Library. The director for 7 years, Ms. Payne focused on customer service, which earned her the respect and admiration of the residents of Gray. Ms. Payne was the librarian at Greeley Junior High School for 27 years, and this experience led her to create in the Gray Public Library a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a balanced collection that meets the needs of the community. To augment the library's collection, an expansion of electronic resources was introduced and people now have the opportunity to request books from home. Joseph Dyar, of Strong, an honor student at Mt. Abram Regional High School, who is the recipient of the WCSH Channel 6 and WLBZ Channel 2 Teen Who Cares Award, one of 6 students in the State to be honored. Joe is always quietly eager to offer assistance, encouragement and friendship and has contributed to the Strong Fire Department in many ways. As a young boy, he helped around the fire station by neatening up the facility and washing fire trucks. As he got older, he put his talents to work by creating an internet website for the department and has been instrumental in improving its computer system. He also learned grant writing, with unprecedented success on behalf of the fire department. His first grant brought in nearly $30,000 in federal money for radios and protective clothing, his second brought in $6,000 toward the purchase of a thermal imaging camera, and his latest grant award has been in the form of a $150,000 state-of-the-art squad truck. Joe is a certified firefighter and is soon to be certified in the Emergency Medical Service field. We acknowledge Joseph Dyar's extraordinary commitment to his community and to the profession of firefighting and we congratulate him on his receiving this well-deserved award; (HLS 2097)

Florence A. Graham, of Strong, who turned 102 on February 28, 2006. Mrs. Graham is the mother of two children, Carol Hadfield and the late David Graham. the third-grade through sixth-grade students at Academy Hill School, in Wilton, who have helped countless people by raising $7,000 for the Read to Feed program. Read to Feed supports the nonprofit Heifer International Program, which works to end hunger through the gift of farm animals to impoverished families in 128 countries. Barbara Vining, of Wilton, on her 35 years of service to the Town of Wilton as Assistant Town Manager. Ms. Vining started work at the town office the day after she graduated from high school, June 7, 1971. Percy F. "Tunny" Bellfleur, of Millinocket, a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Bellfleur was the recipient of 2 Purple Heart medals and a Bronze Service Star. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 4154 in Millinocket. Mr. Bellfleur worked at Great Northern Paper Company for more than 35 years, retiring in 1987. Dr. Robert Cote, of Sanford. Dr. Cote began his medical career as an intern at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston in the late 1960s. In 1973, he became one of the first internal medicine physicians on staff at Goodall Hospital. During his 30 years of practicing medicine in Sanford, Dr. Cote served several terms as president of Goodall Hospital's medical staff. From 2003 to 2006, Dr. Cote was Chief of Medicine. He served on numerous committees at the hospital during his career, and he was elected as one of the first physician members of the hospital's Board of Trustees. Dr. Cote contributed 25 years of service as the medical director for the Newton Center, a skilled nursing care facility on the hospital campus. We acknowledge his dedicated longtime service to his profession and to the Sanford community. Julianne MacGown, of Eliot, who has been named to the UnumProvident Maine Teachers Hall of Fame. Ms. MacGown is an art teacher at Eliot Elementary School. She labels, mounts and hangs in the school's hallway every piece of artwork created by her 350 kindergarten through 3rd grade students. She has earned the respect of her colleagues during the 4 years that she has been teaching at Eliot Elementary and has been described as a phenomenal educator by the school's principal. Stephen Beckert, of Eliot, who is the recipient of the Fabyan Drake Citizen of the Year Award. This honor is presented to Mr. Beckert for his many years of dedicated public service. He has served on the town's Board of Selectmen for 10 years and was also on the Budget Committee, serving as chair for 2 years. He was president of the Raitt Homestead Tractor Association Board for 8 years. He presently serves as a trustee of the William Fogg Library, chair of Eliot's Bicentennial Committee, a member of the town's Sewer Committee, a trustee of the Brooks Memorial Cemetery and vice-chair of the Planning Board. Mr. Beckert's limitless contributions have earned him the respect of the town's leaders and citizens. Ethel Smith, of Eliot, who is the recipient of the Boston Post Cane. Born on February 27, 1905, she is the oldest citizen in her community. Mrs. Smith married her late husband on April 10, 1929. She worked at the Lynn Institution for Savings in Lynn, Massachusetts for more than 45 years and was an active member of the Austin Square Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith moved to Eliot 3 years ago to live with her brother, the Honorable Walter Hichens, former State Senator. We extend our congratulations to Mrs. Smith on her receiving the Boston Post Cane and wish her many more years of continued happiness; (HLS 2120)

Philip Coffren, of Phillips, who is the recipient of the American Legion School Award for his service, courage, honor, leadership, patriotism and scholarship. Philip is a member of the student council at Phillips Middle School and was part of the team working to increase student participation in after-school activities. He participated on the Maps Brigade Team, which recently raised about $750 for the American Cancer Society. He has been very active in civic organizations and helping people in the community. Serena Richard, of Phillips, who is the recipient of the American Legion School Award for her service, courage, honor, leadership, patriotism and scholarship. Serena is an honor student at Phillips Middle School and is very involved with school activities, such as the drama program and keeping the books for the boys' baseball team. She has participated in fundraising for the class trip. Serena has been a faithful member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 6 years and has earned many awards for her charitable and civic service to her community and to the State of Maine. Peter Doak, of Columbia Falls, on his retirement as principal of Narraguagus High School in Harrington. Mr. Doak is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army, who served his country for over 20 years before entering the field of education. He has been principal of Narraguagus High School since 1996 and also served as principal at Jonesport-Beals High School. Mr. Doak has extensive teaching experience at the high school level and in the United States Army. We acknowledge his dedicated service to his profession, his community and his State and Nation. the Lisbon Falls Baptist Church and its congregation on its 150th anniversary. Since its inception in 1856, the church has grown from 15 members to the 250 members who now attend. The Lisbon Falls Baptist Church began as the parish church and in 1856 changed its name to Free Baptist. The name changed again in 1929 to the United Baptist Church and finally, after a vote by the parishioners in 1976, was changed to the name that the congregation meets under today. We extend to them our congratulations on this tremendous milestone and wish them continued success in their community involvement; (HLS 2132)

the members of Vinalhaven Emergency Medical Services for their dedicated service to the community: Chief Burke Lynch, John Moreland, Kevin Michael, Leighann Chilles, Matt Crossman, Patricia Lundholm, Rich Carlsen, Marc Candage, Karen Jackson, Debbie Poole, Karol Kucinski, Gigi Baas, Jimmy Harris and Nick Barton. The Vinalhaven EMS began 15 years ago with a donation of an ambulance to the Islands Community Medical Center. What was once a transportation service has grown into an all volunteer, trained and certified emergency medical service that has tended to hundreds of injuries and saved the lives of island residents and visitors. We join the citizens of Vinalhaven in recognizing the service of the members of Vinalhaven EMS and applaud them for their selfless efforts on behalf of the community; (HLS 2133)

the Honorable Charlene B. Rydell, of Brunswick, an advocate for mentally handicapped children and adults. Mrs. Rydell met her husband, Lars, at Brown University, and they were married in 1963. They shared common interests and values that lasted for 43 years. In 1972, Mrs. Rydell moved with her husband and son, David, to Oslo, Norway. Her insights into human behavior and community institutions led her to design and implement a Service Research Project for Young Mentally Retarded Children and their Families in the Oslo region. Her love of family and love of community were twin passions that led her to a career of service. She was a member of the Maine State Legislature during the 112th through the 116th legislative sessions. In 1998, she joined the staff of Congressman Tom Allen's office in Portland as adviser on health care and social issues. She was part of Governor Baldacci's core group that developed his Dirigo Health Reform Initiative and served as a founding member of the Dirigo Health Agency Board. Throughout her career she served in many local, state and national organizations, promoting services to children and families and advocating for universally available and affordable health care. She became a founding Trustee on the Board of the Maine Health Access Foundation, the largest nonprofit health-directed charitable foundation in the State. She received the Larry Connolly Award for Dedication to Justice and Equality for Maine Lesbian and Gay Citizens, the Congressman John Joseph Moakley Award for Exemplary Community Service and the John Marvin Award. The Honorable Mrs. Rydell was an inspiration to many and will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends and others she met during her public service; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 2134)

Arthur and Joyce Gouin, of Norway, on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Gouin were married at the East Stoneham Church in Stoneham, where a celebration to commemorate their marriage will take place amongst family and friends. Betrand and Irma (Dionne) Dumais, of Frenchville, on the occasion of their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Dumais were married on April 30, 1946 at Ste-Luce Roman Catholic Church in Frenchville. They are the proud parents of 5 children: Raymond, Claudette, Robert, Claire and Diane. They also enjoy their 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren very much. For 6 decades as a couple, Bert and Irma have been excellent role models as parents, grandparents, parishioners and citizens of their community. They have weathered the years with their ups and downs extremely well, physically and spiritually. Their love for each other and their individual strengths have combined to make their union a very successful one. Mr. Dumais is an "entrepreneur par excellence," having successfully been a farmer, a general store owner, a builder and contractor, a head instructor of building trades, a furniture maker, a craftsman and a fly rod maker. He has instilled quality and creativity in all he has done. Mrs. Dumais became the "domestic engineer," taking good care of the children and managing the home. She has imparted in her children solid values and a great spiritual foundation. She has also distinguished herself through her volunteerism in her church and community. Brian Brodie, of Lubec, who has attained the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout. Fay Pye, of Phippsburg, on the 50th Anniversary of her teaching dance in Bath. Ms. Pye is a lifelong resident of Phippsburg who started as a dance student of Charlotte Cahill, a dance instructor in Bath who once danced for famed theatrical impresario Florenz Ziegfeld in New York City. As a young dance student, Ms. Pye excelled at all kinds of dance. She studied in New York under many of the great dance masters in classical ballet, jazz, tap and acrobatic dance. She began instructing students at Ms. Cahill's dance studio and eventually took it over. Ms. Cahill retired from dancing and became Ms. Pye's accompanist at the school until her retirement in 1974. Fay Pye's Dance Studio is popular and well attended, offering dance instruction to students from miles around. We acknowledge Ms. Pye's extraordinary contribution to the dance arts in Maine and we send her our congratulations and best wishes on the Golden Anniversary of her teaching career; (HLS 2140)
