Ricky Craven, of Newburgh, for his 2nd NASCAR Winston Cup Victory in Darlington, South Carolina. Ricky's victory broke the standing record for closest finishes with his #32 Tide Pontiac Grand Prix edging out driver Kurt Busch by an unofficial margin of two-thousandths of a second. This is the smallest margin of victory since electronic timing was introduced in 1993. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to him for continued success; (HLS 358)

Thomas L. Fairchild, of East Monmouth, husband of the late Alice Dennison Fairchild for 54 years. He was an educator and coach at Windham High School and principal of Limington High School and Monmouth Academy. He became superintendent and oversaw additions to Monmouth Academy and the construction of Oak Hill School. After his retirement in 1984, Mr. Fairchild enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the East Monmouth Methodist Church, a member of the Maine Principals Association, Monmouth Lions Club and the Order of Masons. He was also an active member of the Monmouth Planning Board and served as deputy code enforcement officer. Kenneth J. Smith, of Cushing, who has been named the 2002 Officer of the Year by the Rockland Police Department. A member of the Rockland Department for 4 years, he earned his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Maine and completed the Police Officer Training Program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. WoodenBoat Magazine and Atlantic Challenge Foundation, of Rockland, recipients of the Special Recognition Award from the Rockland-Thomaston Area Chamber of Commerce. Edwin Walden, of Greenville, for his outstanding work for and support of the Greenville Airport from 1949 to the present. Edwin and his late wife Barbara worked tirelessly together for the betterment of the flying community. The late Senator Edmund S. Muskie commended them in 1958 when they helped save an F-102 fighter plane, which had made a forced landing at the Greenville Airport. Kristen Uhuad, of Jay, who has been selected to represent Jay High School at the Maine Youth Leadership Conference in May. The Maine Youth Leadership program, which seeks to identify potential future leaders from the sophomore class, chose Kristen from her essay on leadership. She will join other ambassadors from other high schools in the State to attend a 3-day seminar at the University of Southern Maine. Kristen is a mentor for younger students, is an active member of the math team and participates in field hockey. Amanda Castonguay, of Jay, winner of the Voice of Democracy competition sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3335. Nate Hart, of Waterville, who is the recipient of the 2002-2003 Travis Roy Award, which is given annually to a senior ice hockey player at a Class A school and is based on academic achievement, community involvement and playing ability. Nate scored more than 50 percent of the team's goals, completing his high school hockey career as one of the best players from Waterville High School. In 4 years he scored 105 goals and added 100 assists for a total of 205 points, fifth on the school's all-time list. Receiving Maine's top high school hockey honor is a tremendous achievement. We commend Nate for his hours of dedication to the sport and wish him well as he goes on to the University of Maine; (HLS 376)

Charles "Gus" Folsom, of Fairfield, who has been selected for induction into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Folsom is a 1951 graduate of Stearns High School, in Millinocket, where he excelled in basketball and baseball and was instrumental in leading the teams to victories in regional and state tournaments. His excellence in basketball and baseball continued throughout his years at the University of Maine, where he was named captain of the basketball team and was a pitcher and an outfielder for the Maine Black Bears baseball team when it won the State of Maine Series. Mr. Folsom also played semi-pro baseball for the Emerson Pills and later played in local AA leagues. More recently, he coached both the boys' and girls' basketball teams for Lawrence High School, coaching each of those teams to numerous victories. He was named Coach of the Year in 1974 by the Maine State Coaches Association and in 1985 the Lawrence High School Gymnasium was renamed the Folsom Gymnasium in his honor. Greg Goodness, of Saco, who has been named the State's Middle Level Principal of the Year by the Maine Principals' Association. He has been the principal at Shapleigh Middle School in Kittery since 1997. Mary MacFarland, of China, upon her retirement after 10 years as Executive Director of the Maine Association of Student Councils. She has been a Home Economics teacher at Erskine Academy for a number of years. Mark Seelen, of Falmouth, who is the recipient of the 2003 Teens Who Care Award. The award is given for outstanding volunteer service. the Rev. Dr. Patrick Seymour, of Millinocket, who is relocating to Bangor after 16 years as pastor of the First Congregational Church. His ministry has been the longest in the history of the Millinocket church. In his new position, Dr. Seymour will be working with congregations that belong to the American Baptist Church in Penobscot County. Father Robert G. Lavoie, of Gray, upon his 50th Anniversary as a parish priest. Father Lavoie was raised in Lewiston, where he decided in grammar school to become a priest. He graduated from the Grand Seminary of Montreal and said his first Mass in Lewiston at his home parish of Sts. Peter and Paul in 1953. Throughout his 50 years in the priesthood, his various church assignments in Maine have touched thousands of families. Father Lavoie has served as pastor at St. Gregory in Gray for nearly 6 years and has no intentions of retiring. His interaction and visits within the community, along with the many responsibilities and needs of the parish, have made him a valued pastor in the Town of Gray. Walter and Elizabeth Osgood, of Berwick, on their 61st Wedding Anniversary. Walter and Elizabeth were married March 28, 1942 at Moody Beach. They have 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Walter has served his community as a former Selectman and Chief of Police, as well as having served his country in World War II. Elizabeth, who is now retired from P. Gagnon & Sons, also put her energies into being a mother and homemaker. Francesca Orsini, of South Berwick, a member of the Junior Division Team of the United States Figure Skating Association, which recently skated at the Synchronized Team Skating Championships in Huntsville, Alabama. The Junior Division Team won a Bronze Medal and will be assigned to an international competition, where they will represent the United States and the United States Figure Skating Association. Megan Curtis, of Naples, on winning the SAD #61 Spelling Bee held at Lake Region Middle School. Gilbert "Bud" Clifford, of Winthrop, on the special occasion of his 98th Birthday, April 6, 2003. Bud was a Blaine House staff member for Governor Kenneth Curtis. Beverly L. Ouellette, of Auburn, for her tireless public service to the citizens of Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties over the past 20 years.
