Each print is accompanied by a slightly narrower, adjacent untrimmed sheet from the volume with elegant text centered in the middle that describes the print. A few pages later, the same penman has neatly written on the blank recto of an illustration the following: "The man who borrows a book and reads it through without turning down the corners of the leaves or leaving the prints of his thumbs is a gentleman and a scholar, and a good judge of whiskey." On the lower part of the t-p is the small, slightly decorative oval ink stamp of the "Omaha Weekly Bee -- Premium." Howes says, an "intelligent narrative of extensive travels from the Platte to the Arkansas, including the best contemporary account of Snively's abortive land-pirate expedition."
