Determine weight for age. Determine the weight forage as you did for the young infant. See separate WHO growth charts for boys and girls. Decide if the point is above, on, or below the bottom curve.
- If the point is below the bottom curve, the child is severely underweight forage- If the point is above or on the -3 SD line (bottom line), the child is not severely underweight.
- If the point is above or on the bottom curve, but below -2 SD line, the child is moderately underweight forage- If the point is above or on the -2 SD line, the child is not moderately underweight. Tell your facilitator when you are ready to discuss your answers to this exercise.

EXAMPLE: A male child is 26 months old and weighs 8.0 kilograms. Determine the child’s weight forage and plot on the growth chart. Moderately underweight Severely underweight This is the point where the lines forage and weight meet. Because the point is below the bottom curve, the child is severely underweight forage. This line shows the child’s age

7.2 CLASSIFY NUTRITIONAL STATUS
There are three classifications fora child's nutritional status. They are SEVERE MALNUTRITION VERY LOW WEIGHT NOT VERY LOW WEIGHT
• Visible severe wasting or
• Oedema of both feet.

SEVERE
MALNUTRITION
Give single dose of Vitamin Ab iibPrevent low blood sugar.
Refer URGENTLY to hospital
While referral is being organized, warm the child.
Keep the child warm on the way to hospital.
• Severely Underweight(<-3
S.D).

VERY
LOW WEIGHT
Assess and counsel for feeding If feeding problem followup in 5 days Advise mother when to return immediately Followup in 30 days.
