Middle Years Programme School Admission Policy School’s Admission Policy – Ridgeview Charter School The Charter will comply with NCLB and Unitary Status. We will comply with federal, state, and local rules and regulations, court orders, and statutes related to civil rights. RMS shall not discriminate against students on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, gender, national origin, religion, ancestry, and marital status or for special educational services. Furthermore, RMS shall not discriminate on any basis that would be illegal. To provide the School System with necessary data for state funding reporting and enrollment monitoring, the Charter School will agree to use the School System’s student information system in accordance with School System specifications. RMS shall enroll any student (including students with disabilities and ESOL students) who resides in the Fulton County School System designated RMS attendance zone. Our students will be in grades six through eight and range in age from eleven to fifteen. We will follow the Fulton County School System and the state of Georgia’s maximum class size recommendations. . All RMS students and families will be expected to comply with the provisions of the charter and sign the RMS Promise. Any student may withdraw without penalty from the Charter School at any time and enroll in a local school in the Fulton County School System as determined by the Fulton County School Board. Transportation will not be provided by the district to any other school. Failure to comply with the RMS Promise will endanger the student’s continuation at the charter. If applicable, an administrative intervention . regarding non-compliance with the Charter provisions will occur prior to any withdrawal of a student and plans to correct the non-compliance will be implemented with the cooperation of the parents. Students zoned to RMS will not be dismissed except with extreme cause. Additionally, RMS will accept any student who resides within the Fulton County School District if they meet the following criteria: Parents must accept the provisions of the Charter to include the uniform policy, the MYP approaches, the mandatory parental participation requirements, and any and all other practices and procedures of the charter. RMS will give enrollment preference to: Students who reside in the RMS attendance zone, and Children of faculty or staff. Given the school’s current population, no students outside the attendance zone will be accepted for the 2006-07 school year for Charter purposes. If, during the Charter, it is projected by the FCS and the LSAC that our student body will not attain minimum capacity (550 students), the school will initiate a random lottery for the remaining number of spaces not to exceed state capacity (775 students). The LSAC will establish the time period and procedures for the random lottery. This will include a recruitment policy, time periods for applications, and appropriate deadlines which coincide with Fulton County Schools’ calendar. Students within Fulton County but outside the RMS attendance zone will be able to participate in the lottery. We will follow all provisions of State law and Fulton County regulations regarding conversion charter attendance if a random lottery is ever implemented during the life of the charter. Ridgeview will not accept students who reside outside Fulton County Schools. Recruitment of students is the responsibility of the charter. The Charter will provide parents of potential students with accurate information about the programs, services and amenities at the school. School’s Admission Policy – Riverwood High School Students may attend Riverwood if they: live with a parent or guardian within the Riverwood attendance area (MAP) live in the Fulton County School district and outside the Riverwood attendance area and are accepted into the International Studies Magnet or the Majority to Minority Programs. have been granted a hardship or curriculum exception by the Fulton County School System. live outside the Fulton County School System, are accepted into the International Studies Magnet and pay tuition (Tuition Enrollment). THE REGISTRATION PROCESS Students who live in the Riverwood attendance area and currently attend Ridgeview Middle School: These students are automatically enrolled at Riverwood. During the 2nd semester of the student's 8th grade year, the Riverwood counselors will visit Ridgeview and meet with each 8th grade student to assist in course selection. In order for a Ridgeview 8th grader to take Magnet courses and/or be eligible for consideration in the International Baccalaureate program at the end of 10th grade, that student must apply for and be accepted into the International Studies Program. Students who live within Riverwood's attendance area and currently attend a private school: The parent/guardian should schedule an appointment with Riverwood's Counseling Office to enroll their student and to select courses. If the student wants to take Magnet courses and/or be eligible for consideration in the International Baccalaureate program at the end of 10th grade, they must apply for and be accepted into the International Studies Program. We recommend that you receive acceptance into this program prior to scheduling a counseling appointment. Students who live within the Fulton County School district but not within the boundaries of Riverwood's attendance area: Students seeking admission to Riverwood through the International Studies Magnet or the Majority to Minority Programs must be accepted by those programs before they can enroll. Once accepted, the parent/guardian should schedule an appointment with Riverwood's Counseling Office to enroll the student and to select courses. This procedure is the same whether the student is currently attending a Fulton County school, a private school, or has moved into the Fulton County School district but not Riverwood's attendance area. Students who live outside the Fulton County School System (Tuition Enrollment): Students seeking admission to Riverwood through tuition enrollment must be accepted into the International Studies Magnet program. Once accepted into the magnet program, the parent/guardian must make the tuition payment and schedule an appointment with Riverwood's Counseling Office to enroll the student and to select courses. APPLICATION TO SPECIAL PROGRAMS The International Studies Magnet Program: Applications can be obtained from Fulton County Middle School Counselors, Riverwood's Counseling and International Studies Offices or downloaded from the web site (click here). The Majority to Minority Student Transfer Program or other attendance exceptions: To participate in the M-to-M program, the student's parent(s) must complete an M-to-M transfer application. This form must be obtained from the M-to-M Transfer Office within the Office of Student Services on Cleveland Avenue or by calling (404) 763-6820. Applications will not be available prior to February 1st. A student who attended Ridgeview Middle School under this program must reapply for consideration into the program at Riverwood. Currently, Riverwood has a waiting list for placement. All other appeals for exceptional placement should be presented to the district's Student Placement Office (404) 763-6820.
