Nuclear energy is commonly offered as an alternative to overcome the crisis of energy. The debate whether the use of nuclear energy is an appropriate choice has not come to an end. Some people agree with the utilization of it because of its benefits. Some others, however, disagree because of its risks to the environmental safety. So, nuclear energy should be avoided.

Those who agree with the operation of nuclear reactors usually argue that the energy which is produced from them can be used for multipurpose. The reactors can produce radioisotopes which are utilized in medical, industrial and agricultural fields. They also claim that nuclear energy is the only feasible choice to answer the ever-increasing energy needs. According to them, the other sources of energy; oil, and liquid natural gas are not renewable and safe, while the nuclear energy can be produced in a safe way. In addition they believe that nuclear energy will never cause pollution, but oil and coal will not.

On the other hand, people who disagree with the use of nuclear energy, keep criticizing that to choose it as the best alternative to overcome the growing energy needs is silly. The silliness can be seen from the question why they are interested in nuclear power when there is still an abundance of natural energy resources, like oil, coal, hydroelectric, thermal, etc.

In most urban and suburban areas throughout the world, sick people are taken to a doctor’s office or to a hospital for treatment. But among tribal and village people in many countries, patients are taken, instead to a local healer. This person is a combination of a doctor, a priest, and a psychologist. Some of his or her folk methods are similar to those of a doctor, but most are very different. The difference in method is a result of the fact that disease – to modern scientific mind – is view as something natural; it is caused by viruses, bacteria, and other small things that we can’t see without a microscope. By contrast, in much of the world, disease is considered to be something supernatural; in other words sickness is not caused by something physical but instead is the result of deep anger, broken religion laws, the hatred of enemies, bad spirit, and so on. A physician knows how to treat a specific disease. A traditional healer, however, treats the whole person – and often the patient’s family and friends as well.

Of course, there may be no need for treatment if people know how to take care of themselves to prevent sickness. A modern physician might tell patients to eat, how much to exercise, when and how to relax, and the like. A traditional healer, on the other hand, might tell patients to wear amulets – special necklaces for protection against bad spirit. Nevertheless, in both villages and urban societies, people become ill and sometimes need medical help.

What comes to mind when somebody asks you whether television is also giving us disadvantages ? Are you going to say “yes” ?

But, what did we use to do before television existed ? Television has been with us for a long time and I think people have already begun to forget what the world was like without it. Before it existed, people used to enjoy simple pleasures. For instance, they probably used to have hobbies, entertain their friends and be entertained, go out for amusements to theatres, cinemas, restaurants, and sport events. They used to read books, listen to music and the radio. But many of those belonged to the past. Now, almost all of our free time is regulated by the “goggle box”.

Let’s think of what people do with the presence of television. Information can be absorbed easily and everything can be visualized. Some people feel that it is a must to watch TV to be well-informed. Television programs are considered a cheap source of information and entertainment. Watching TV program could be an easy way to release stress. We can also improve our general knowledge by watching and listening to the news and other educational programs. Of course, there are many advantages we can get by watching TV.

I like watching TV very much. I guess it is one of my hobbies and my interests. It is true that television is providing us with many advantages. However, recently, I started to think about the drawbacks. So, if somebody asks me whether television is giving us disadvantages, I must answer, “Yes, TV is also giving us disadvantages!” It is also possible that those disadvantages could give us a bad influence.

CLONING AT ANIMALS : ALLOWED OR NOT ALLOWED ?

In this modern era, technology has developed into such a certain degree that scientists are able to create new forms of life. One of them is cloning. The debate whether cloning at animals is allowed or not seems never endless.

Those who agree with the cloning at animals usually argue that the seed produces from them can be used to everlasting rare species. They also adds that cloning has a purpose to produce high quality of seeds.

Many species are becoming rare and rare. Scientists are concerned if they don’t do something to save the species, these animals will be extinct and it means a big loss in the animal kingdom. For this reason, researchers improve the cloning technology so that many rare species can be successfully cloned.

Not everyone is excited about cloning at animals, however. Some people feel that it could have a terrible consequency. For example, if Dinosaurs are cloned, then men will be destroyed. GOOD SIDES AND BAD SIDES OF TOURISM

Indonesia has good potential for tourism. It has many beautiful places, many different customs, languages, dances, traditional dresses, and songs. We even have one of the seven wonders of the world, Borobudur. So, it is not impossible for Indonesia to exploit these through tourism. It is not only that Indonesia is good for tourism, but tourism is also good for Indonesia. To attract people, we have to make our country look nice and clean. We need to build more hotels and more public transportation, more restaurants, entertainment buildings, etc. especially at tourist destinations. Then the world of business and technology will grow and later it will alter the whole country. This is the good side of tourism.

But we must bear in mind that there are some bad aspects of tourists. The way of life of people will change. Many bad influences from outside will come and ruin the people mentally, especially, youngsters. This is the most dangerous and serious matter. The beautiful places in Indonesia could be ruined as well because of the careless tourists and careless businessmen who only want to gain profit without considering the environment.

So, what should we do ? I think here the government has a solution. They must give their people enough information about tourism and become guards to lead and protect their people and we, as good citizens, must obey them and remember that we are Indonesians who have our own cultures and principles.

Death penalty for serious criminals has been discussed by our experts. Those who agree say that death penalty will scare the criminals off. However, those who disagree say that it is inhuman, not effective and we cannot correct the wrong sentence after the criminals die.

In Switzerland, this penalty does not exist. Most people argue that the possibility of making the wrong decision is always there although it is true that spending life behind the bars is not easy either. Also, every person should have a chance for rehabilitation. In this way he or she can start all over again in another life style.

Those who agree argue that there is no use to feed the terrorists in prison with their money. When they get out, they will create a lot of trouble by blackmailing and killing people. So, who says that jails will stop them from being bad guys ?
