Job Title:

Gifted and Talented Teacher

Exempt

Calendar Classification:

9- Month Staff

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year to be established by the school board. Duty hours to include 8 hours per day/40 hours per week.


Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of staff personnel.


Education/Qualifications:

Current North Dakota Teaching Certificate, BS degree with major/minor endorsement in elementary education and coursework in Gifted and Talented.


Physical Activity:

Employee will be required to stoop, kneel, stand, walk, sit, lift, speak, and hear.


Physical Requirements:

Employee shall be able to exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and up to 10 lbs of force frequently to lift, push, pull, carry or otherwise move objects, including the human body.



Mental Requirements:

Employee shall be able to appropriately adapt to stressful and/or emotional situations.


Working Conditions:

Worker is subject to activities that occur indoors and outdoors. Outside temperatures range from below 32 degrees to above 75 degrees.




Coordination and Supervision

  • Screen nominations for Gifted and Talented program placement

  • Test students for Gifted and Talented placement.

  • Conduct and facilitate multidisciplinary team approval meetings.

  • Write IEP for each student.

  • Schedule student meetings with consultants.

  • Prepare student files for BIA audit.

  • Maintain a weekly file for each student in the Gifted and Talented program

  • Prepare and administer budget for Gifted and Talented program.

  • Secure supplies and equipment needed for the Gifted and Talented program.

  • Provide end of the year evaluation for student’s progress in the Gifted and Talented program

  • Provide consultants for the different Gifted and Talented sponsored disciplines.

  • Piano and instrumental music teacher.

  • Tae Kwon Do instructor

  • Speech/declamation coach

  • Chess advisor

  • Student government advisor

  • Art instructor

  • Poetry instructor

  • Photo club instructor/advisor

  • Student newspaper

  • Yearbook

  • Academic enrichment in math, science and literacy

  • “Circle of Voices”

School-wide Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Responsible for disseminating information to all staff members concerning the gifted and talented program so they are aware of the different disciplines and are invited to nominate students

  • Inform teachers, students, parents and administrators of new materials, equipment and services that meet their needs.

  • Participate in department and grade-level school curriculum development and assessment projects.

  • Offer assistance to teachers in the selection and purchase of instructional materials and in the use of information resources.

  • Recommend student-level literature to teachers and encourages them to read to their classes as well as reading personally for an awareness of the literature available.

Training and Professional Growth

  • Will provide for professional growth through a continuous program of evaluations, professional materials, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

  • Must be able to obtain the appropriate certification, licensing requirements or training in the following areas:




    • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)

    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

    • Automated external defibrillator (AED)

    • First Aid

    • Child Abuse and Mandated Reporting requirements and procedures

    • Confidentiality requirements and laws

    • Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

    • Student Rights

    • Student Check out Policy

    • Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Plan

    • Blood Borne Pathogens

    • Emergency Response Plan (ERP)

    • Fire Safety and Fire Drills
