Spirituality

“Knock Until Our Knuckles Are Raw” is the title of a brief article by Austin Fleming, a priest ministering in the Boston area. More of his prayers and comments can be found at www.concordpastor.blogspot.com.

Father Austin’s title and comments on Mathew’s Gospel account of Jesus telling his disciples: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. . . And do to others whatever you would have them do to you” can seep into our lives through prayer and a mindfulness. The power of empathy for another human being which is rooted in prayer, reflection, and mindfulness helps our children learn these skills. Let us teach by modeling. As St. Francis of Assisi says, “Preach the Gospel always, and when necessary, use words.”
Probation

There are some students on probation. For clarity sake, students who make poor choices that are not aligned with our standards are on PROBATION which means they may not be invited to attend SFC School for the year 2014-2015. We have many students entering our school next year. We have students and are attracting motivated and disciplined students who will join our teachers in working hard to educate each student. That means that students contribute to the other students’ education. Please re-read the Student Handbook section about students Rights and Responsibilities.

Any student on PROBATION may NOT participate in sports. Other activities may be curtailed as well.
Professional Development

Last Friday, March 7 our faculty participated in the first Independence Mission Schools’ Professional Development at Chestnut Hill College. This PD inspired the teachers to continue to strengthen the curriculum, build professional communities, and to work as a team for the challenging ministry of education.

Coach Bingo

All of the proceeds from Coach Bingo will go towards purchasing ceiling fans and much needed air conditioners. So please gather your friends and bring them to a very fun event! Buy tickets in advance. Tickets are $25 in advance and $40 at the door.

Important Report Card Information

Marks close this Friday. Report Cards will be distributed on Thursday, March 27 in the Communication Envelope. Those who still owe tuition and CARES payments will NOT be able to receive their report cards.

Terra Nova

Next week we begin the Terra Nova. This assessment will not in any way be connected with your child’s Report Card. The Terra Nova is a standardized test that informs the school about your child’s skills. We study this data closely as well as all assessments (tests) given throughout this year.

Cooking Club

Cooking Club is moved to Thursdays! The final class will be on March 27.

Blacks in Wax/Underground Railroad

The students are so very excited about performing for you! Due to parents who cannot get time off due to so much missed work with the amount of snow we’ve experienced, there is an adjustment for the time of shows for this fantastic event. We are offering two evening shows so that we do not repeat the dangerously crowded conditions experienced at the Christmas show. The times are listed below:

  • Thursday, March 27 at 12:30 PM and at 7:00 PM

  • Friday, March 28 at the same time as the above.

We recommend that Grades Pre K-Grade 4 attend on Thursday, March 27. We strongly recommend that the Middle School families attend on Friday night. If you need to switch evenings, please know that this is fine, however, if the majority attends on the recommended nights, this will be a huge help for all! Please be in the school on time so that you do not miss the event from beginning to end!

Robotics

The children in Grades 3 and 4 continue to enjoy this inspiring club! Think about joining this next year.

Re-Enrollment

Re-enrollment ends this Saturday. If your child is not enrolled, then we cannot save your child’s seat. Please make every effort to enroll by Saturday.

West Catholic Day at SFC

We strongly invite all those parents & students in Grades 7 & 8 to attend our West Catholic Day on Friday, March 21 at 4:00 PM. There will be speakers, games (relays & BB), and conclude with Pizza. Financial aid information, next year’s test dates, and other information will be available. Please complete the form in the Communication Envelope.

Bus Company

Atlantic Express Bus Company was sold. The new company is now in transition causing some serious scheduling problems in the morning. Please know that we are on the phone WAITING as you are so as to connect with someone about our problems. Please continue to be in touch with them. You may use the following numbers: Complaint—Parent 214.400.4000

Complaint: 215.400.5295

215.400.5271

Atlantic Express—215.537.5405

When we band together as a school community, they will hear our needs. Thank you for your patience and persistence!

Family Input and Special Lunches

Special Lunches are now on Fridays. We needed more time to prepare. In other schools, special lunch was always on Mondays, so as to help parents. Please let Sister Helene know your thoughts as well as any other thoughts via her email: hcooke14@gmail.com.

March Pretzels

March pretzel money is due now. Tomorrow is the last day for March pretzel money. A few left over Pretzels will be sold in the office at the end of the day.
