  1. Educational Aims of the Programme

The programme aims and outcomes have reference to the subject benchmarking statement (SB) for Masters awards in business and management.

The programme aims to:



  1. Educate individuals as managers and business specialists and thus improve the quality of management as a profession (SB 2.1).

  2. Provide career development opportunities by enhancing business knowledge and understanding and professional competence in individuals who are already experienced managers and who wish to enhance their competence through a structured course of study (SB 2.1).

  3. Add value to first degrees by developing in individuals an integrated and critically aware understanding of management and organisations and assist them in taking effective roles within them (SB 2.1).

  4. Develop students’ knowledge and understanding of organisations, the external context in which they operate and how they are managed (SB 3.2).

  5. Develop an appropriate range of cognitive, critical and intellectual skills, research skills and relevant personal and interpersonal skills (SB 3.3).

  6. Enhance the quality of applicants to Kent Business School programmes, both from the UK and overseas.

  7. Enable students better to set and prioritise objectives, and prepare, implement and monitor plans for the achievement of corporate objectives in the light of available and required resources (SB 6.6).

  8. Bring the scholarly and critical insights of the Social Sciences to bear on the subjects, activities and processes associated with the management of organisations.

  9. Provide business education, the value and relevance of which is acknowledged via accreditation by AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB.

  10. Support national and regional economic success via the development opportunities offered by the programme, including those related to an understanding of international business practices.

  11. Provide teaching and learning opportunities that are informed by high quality research and scholarship, from within the Business School and elsewhere.

  12. Build on the close ties of the University with European institutions and elsewhere internationally.
