MATT RYAN AND EZEKIEL ELLIOTT NAMED 2016 FEDEX AIR & GROUND NFL PLAYERS OF THE YEAR AT NFL HONORS

FedEx Supports the USO with more than $150,000 in Donations
Atlanta Falcons quarterback MATT RYAN and Dallas Cowboys running back EZEKIEL ELLIOTT were named FEDEX AIR & GROUND NFL PLAYERS OF THE YEAR. FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the National Football League announced the winners tonight, Feb. 4, during NFL Honors – a two-hour primetime special aired nationally on FOX the night before Super Bowl LI.
The FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year awards are a culmination of weekly awards presented by FedEx throughout the NFL season. The awards give football fans the ability to honor stand-out quarterback and running back performances each week, which in turn, directs charitable donations to the USO in the name of the winning players.

  • Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan set a franchise record and ranked second in the NFL in passing yards (4,944). This was his sixth consecutive season passing for at least 4,000 yards, tying for the second-longest streak in NFL history. He finished the season with the second-most passing touchdowns (38) and the third-highest completion percentage (69.9%). Ryan also posted the highest passer rating in the NFL (117.1), which is the fifth-highest single-season rating in NFL history. Ryan threw a touchdown pass to 13 different players this season, the most in a single season in NFL history.

  • Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott led the NFL in rushing yards (1,631) and yards per game (108.7). He had the third-most rushing touchdowns (15) and averaged 5.1 yards per carry. Elliott became the fifth rookie since 1970 to lead the NFL in rushing and his 1,631 rushing yards are third-most all time among rookies, trailing only George Rogers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson.

Ryan and Elliott were selected from a panel of three finalists in their respective Air and Ground categories. The other FedEx Air NFL Players of the Year finalists were quarterbacks Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, while the FedEx Ground NFL Players of the Year finalists included running backs Le’Veon Bell of the Pittsburgh Steelers and David Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals.

This season, fans voted for more than their favorite player. In honor of the winners’ outstanding play, FedEx is donating $100,000 to the USO – $50,000 in each player’s name. The donation will be used to support USO programs that keep service members connected to family, home and country as they transition from military to civilian life.
As part of the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week program, FedEx supported its commitment to serving the community by making weekly $2,000 donations to the USO in each of the winning player’s names. This amounted to a total contribution of $168,000 this season and over $1.7 million since the program’s inception.
The $100,000 donation is part of FedEx’s larger commitment following the launch of the new global giving platform, FedEx Cares. Coinciding with Super Bowl 50, FedEx announced a $50 million commitment to the pillar of Delivering for Good, which delivers resources where they are needed most. The $50 million commitment is part of the company’s larger $200 million investment in more than 200 communities by 2020 to create opportunities and deliver solutions around the world.
As the Official Delivery Service Sponsor of the NFL, Super Bowl and Pro Bowl, FedEx is proud to sponsor the 14th annual FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year Awards. The awards highlight the league’s leaders at the quarterback and running back positions, recognizing the players that consistently deliver the best results throughout the season.
