B. Accommodation of Religious Practices within the Mili- taryThe DoD places a high value on the rights of members of the Military Services to observe the tenets of their respective religions or to observe no religion at all. It protects the civil liberties of its personnel and the public to
the greatest extent possible, consistent with its military requirements. Therefore, unless it could have an adverse
impact on military readiness, unit cohesion,
and good order and discipline, commanders will accommodate individual expressions of sincerely held beliefs (conscience, moral principles, or religious beliefs) of Soldiers.
Requests for religious accommodation of wear and appearance of the uniform and personal grooming practices are not typically entertained by unit commanders. The provisions of AR 670-1 apply regarding the uniform and grooming standards and requests for exceptions to policy.
