Mystery Vocabulary

  1. Sleuth – an amateur detective gathering clues

  2. Accomplice- partner in crime

  3. Red herring- false clue

  4. Alibi- to offer an excuse to prove innocence

  5. Antagonist- a person that opposes the main character

  6. Protagonist- main character

  7. Perpetrator- one who commits a crime

  8. Deduction- draw a logical conclusion

  9. Suspect- a person who has a motive to have committed a crime

10. Motive- reason that person does something

11. Witness- person who has knowledge about a crime

12. Evidence- a thing or statement that helps prove who committed the crime

13. Acquit- set free from a criminal charge



  1. Hunch- a guess or feeling not based on facts
