Dan Curley

Height: 6-4

Weight: 254

Position: TE

College: Eastern Washington

Drafted: Pick 13 of the 5th round by St. Louis
Analysis
Positives: Talented short-area pass catcher with good athletic ability...Has the leg drive to gain extra yardage after the catch...Displays solid initial quickness off the snap and is very elusive in the open...Shows good body control and field awareness going for the ball... Fluid in and out of his cuts...Adjusts quickly to the ball in flight...Has the hand flexibility and arm extension to haul in the high passes...Accelerates well on deep routes...Stays with his man during in-line blocking...Moves his feet properly to adjust in space while blocking upfield.
Negatives: Lacks the intensity to assert himself as a blocker...Not as physical as you'd like for a player of his size...Adequate in releasing off the snap, not taking advantage of his power to escape the jam...Needs to upgrade his upper body strength, as he can be manhandled by the bull rush...Has a tendency to drift in and out of his cuts, rounding them at times when going long... Has smaller hands than usual for a tight end...Needs to add needed bulk in order to prevent the defenders from gaining leverage...Has had several injuries that sidelined him for half of his career (further medical evaluation is needed).

Drafted: Pick 21 of the 5th round by Miami
Analysis
Positives: Has excellent quickness off the snap, showing good body control in and out of his breaks...Does not step away from blocking assignments...Fluid in his release off the line, knowing how to slip past the jam to get up field...Has the acceleration needed to stretch the coverage and does a good job of exposing defenders with his hip swerve and lateral agility...Has a knack for reaching the seven-tech immediately and is especially effective on option routes...Has enough separation speed to isolate linebackers and defensive backs...Makes proper body adjustments tracking the ball in...Can drive block, reach and down block with consistency, despite his fragile-looking frame.
Negatives: Weight room figures do not always translate to the football field...Needs further muscle development, especially in the lower frame...Has a reading disability that could cause problems digesting a complicated play book...Does not appear to have natural hands, as he tends to trap the ball...May be better suited for H-back, due to his less than ideal frame structure...Good blocker, but sometimes puts his face mask down, missing his intended target.
