Carl Ford

Height: 6-0

Weight: 174

Position: WR

College: Toledo

Drafted: Pick 42 of the 7th round by Green Bay
Analysis
Positives: Has a lean, defined frame with sudden explosion off the snap...Has above average vertical quickness for his position...Long strider who comes off the line with no false steps, using his hands well to defeat the press...Extends his hands and times his leaps to get to the ball at its high point...Shows good hip swerve and wiggle after the catch to gain separation...Has above average agility, foot quickness and balance through his route progression.
Negatives: Does not carry his equipment well (timed speed is 4.43, playing speed is 4.7)...Does not get in and out of his routes well when facing hard man coverage, appearing very timid when trying to escape the jam...Shows little separation in the short area, generally going down from the initial hit...Needs to do a better job of securing the ball before heading up field, as he is prone to lose the pigskin after receiving a hard hit...Tries to block, but is not that physical and is more of a "get in the way" type in this area.

Analysis
Positives: Has above average athletic ability for this position...Shows quickness in his release and superb acceleration to get into deep routes...Stays in control running basic routes and has the savvy and sharp cutting ability to gain separation after the catch...Can run by defensive backs with his foot speed and as a former quarterback, provides an additional weapon with the option pass...Shows flexibility and body control with good timing on his leaps to get to the high tosses...Strong runner after the catch with the leg drive to break tackles...Effective blocker who knows how to cut in the open.
Negatives: Needs to use his hands to avoid and work through press coverage better...Shows quickness, but at times, needs to gather himself before accelerating...Needs to do a better job of working back for the ball...Tries to run without the ball is secured and is not comfortable going for the pigskin in contested situations (shies away from contact)...Likes to body catch and must develop better hand extension going for the ball...Still learning the intricacies of playing as a wide receiver and will need patience as he develops technique.

Ryan Hoag

Height: 6-2

Weight: 200

Position: WR

College: Gustavus Adolphus

Drafted: Pick 48 of the 7th round by Oakland
Analysis
Positives: Natural athlete with very quick feet, agility, balance and body control...Very smart talent who actually watches more film than his position coach...Tireless worker who takes pride in the way he prepares for a game...Plays at the proper low pad level and never takes false steps in his release...Flashes explosive acceleration off the line and gets into his deep routes with suddenness...Shows a good burst in and out of his cuts...Can fool the defensive back with his head fakes and juking moves...Can stab and stem to set up the defender...Separates with ease and maintains good ball concentration...Makes quick head movements to adjust and track the ball in flight...Can easily get up and combat for the high passes...Has sure hands, with the ability to pluck the ball away from his body's framework...His body control and change of direction agility allows him to escape defenders after the catch...Shows a good feel running his routes, knowing where to settle and slide in to make the catch in the soft spot of the zone.
Negatives: Has rarely been tested vs. top-level competition...While he is sudden in his moves, his frail frame could pose problems facing the more physical defenders when trying to escape the jam...Does have good hands, but will body catch the short tosses and will miss the easy catch (needs to track the ball better rather than eyeing the defender)... Has a good burst in and out of his cuts, but needs route refinement...Lacks the strength needed to break tackles...Inconsistent blocker who only makes passive attempts in this area due to a lack of power and his slight frame...Must use his hands better to defeat the press, as he relies more on his quickness rather than getting a push off the snap.
