John James Audubon’s world renowned Quadrupeds of North America Folio Edition printed by J.T. Bowen Studio in Philadelphia. This is a beautiful hand-colored plate of the Common American Deer (Cervus virginianus), plate 81, from Audubon’s extremely rare Imperial Folio. This plate has a beautiful image of an American (i.e. white-tailed) deer fawn lying on a bed of grass with its legs curled beneath; much as Audubon pictured it in its natural habitat. Plate 81 is considered one of the top 15 most desired plates from this work; alongside the raccoon and swift fox. The print was professionally framed and double matted with a cloth-wrapped matte atop a cork matte encased in a glass-covered quality walnut veneer frame. Print size is `27.5” x 21.5” and framed is 36” x 30”. Condition overall is excellent (near fine to fine) with no rips, tears, or creases and all edges sharp. $6900
