recalibrate at regular intervals to maintain the equipment's
accuracy and the comparability of data obtained. The most
common way to calibrate meteorological instruments is by
comparison with standard instruments. These are usually kept
at national centres and checked from time to time against
international standards. However, certain instruments and
high-precision calibrations sometimes require rather
sophisticated calibration equipment and have, therefore, to
be sent to specialised laboratories.
