Global superstar, Ed Sheeran, is delighted to reveal details of his new single ‘Thinking Out Loud’, which will be released on November 23 through Asylum Records. You can watch the official video here.
Thinking Out Loud’ has been produced by Jake Gosling, whom Ed worked with on his breakthrough single ‘The A Team’ and his four million-selling debut album +. Written with Amy Wadge - a long-time friend of Ed’s who he collaborated with on his self-released 2010 EP ‘Songs I Wrote with Amy’ - follows Ed’s previous Benny Blanco and Rick Rubin-produced single ‘Don’t’ and sees the 23-year-old, BRIT Award-winning, Grammy-nominated musical talent return with a track that is set to tug at the heart strings over the coming months. The track has already sold over a staggering 250,000 copies in the UK eight weeks out from release! The official video for ‘Thinking Out Loud’ is not what you’d typically expect from the Suffolk-born singer. Shot in Los Angeles and directed by Emil Nava (who’s previously worked with Ed on his videos including ‘The A Team’ and ‘Give Me Love’), the new video sees Ed hit the dancefloor to show off a completely new skill – ballroom dancing! Ed commented – “Thinking Out Loud is one of my favourite tracks on the album, if not my favourite. It’s a great one to perform live and means a lot to me. I wanted the video to be a little different, so I opted for ballroom dancing. I had lessons for 5 hours a day when I was on my US tour last month. I hope they paid off! I love the video and hope you will, too.”
In June this year, Ed released his second studio album x. In just over three months, the album’s sold 650,000 copies in the UK (150K ahead of Coldplay’s Ghost Stories), where it’s now double platinum certified – the only UK album release this year to reach this certification – and has spent a staggering 17 weeks inside the Top 10 in the UK Official Albums chart. x has become the biggest and fastest-selling album of 2014 thus far, has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide and has now out-sold the biggest album of last year: One Direction’s Midnight Memories. Last month, Ed made history after x held the #1 spot in the UK Official Albums Chart for eight consecutive weeks in the UK, making him one of only four artists to hold the #1 spot for eight weeks or longer this millennium following The Beatles, Adele and James Blunt. Upon release, the album peaked at #1 on iTunes in 83 countries, received the highest ever amount of week one global album streams on Spotify (over 23 MILLION) and has become the most played album on Spotify since release.
Having just returned from a sold-out US and Australian headline tour, last week, Ed took to the stage of London’s Roundhouse for iTunes Festival and paid a visit to Radio 1’s Live Lounge where he performed ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and a spine-tingling rendition of Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’ (listen here). Following his recent MTV VMA win for ‘Best Male Video’ with ‘Sing’, Ed has been nominated for two EMAs this year in the ‘Best Male’ and ‘Best UK & Ireland Act’ categories, which will take place in Glasgow on November 9 - he’ll also be performing at the event.
Ed is currently on a nationwide tour of the UK and Ireland; the first time since autumn 2012, which will include four consecutive nights at London’s O2 Arena.
