In accordance with the International Academy of Academia, a hybrid process can be defined as follows The hybrid production process is based on the concurrent and controlled interaction of process mechanisms and energy resources/instru- ments that have a significant impact on process performance The phrase concurrent and controlled interaction means that processes/
energy sources must interact more or less in the identical processing region and simultaneously. Laser-assisted turning/milling represents a characteristic example of a hybrid process. When the earlier-presented definition is taken into account, it shows that any machine that performs the operations consecutively is not hybrid. Hybrid technology is a technological advance that allows for less costly machining of machine parts or materials that are difficult to machine Based on the earlier definition, another classification of hybrid processes is presented in Table 11.2
