Another consequence of compulsory voting is the possible high number of 'random votes. Voters who are voting against their freewill may tick off a name at random, particularly the name at the top of the ballot paper. The voter does not care for whom he or she votes as long as the government is satisfied that they have fulfilled their civic duty. What effect does this immeasurable category of random votes have on the legitimacy of the democratically elected government
