APOLOGETICS VIII. Evolution Versus Creationism Charles Darwin, in his book
Origin of the Species (published 1859), laid the groundwork for the theory of evolution. Darwinism, inlay terms, refers to the belief that lifeforms (including man) evolved from simple to complex lifeforms by natural selection (the survival of the fittest, rather than being created by God.
For more information, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwinism Macro-evolution includes the evolution of one species of life to another species of life. Micro- evolution refers to changes within a species (e.g., a horse is always a horse, even though there are different breeds of horses. Philip provides a model of macro-evolution (macro-evolution represents the popular understanding of the term
evolution): All order seen in universe is the product of randomness and blind chance. Life and living systems developed by the random (unplanned) interaction of matter and energy. Viruses, bacteria, plants and animals have all evolved from a common ancestor. The evolution of one form of life into another takes place through numerous intermediate forms The link to Philip’s website no longer works http://www.apologeticscourses.com/Courses/Evol.htm
Philip also provides a creation model All living and nonliving bodies have been created by a planner. All basic kinds of lifeforms are fixed. Changes are
restricted within the kinds, and one kind never changes into another. Since basic kinds of living creatures have been fixed by the creator, no intermediate forms will ever be seen. Randomness is the opposite of plan. Therefore, randomness will work against the plan, design, and complexity in nature. ” The link to Philip’s website is broken http://www.apologeticscourses.com/Courses/Evol.htm
Since no intermediate forms of
creatures have been confirmed, and since randomness works against the design seen in nature, the creation model better represents reality. For more information, see http://www.apologeticscourses.com/Courses/Evol.htm
One of the key assumptions in the study of evolution and paleontology (historical geology) is the theory of
uniformitarianism . Charles Lyell (1797 – 1875) developed this idea that geological forces Page 1 of 3

that shape mountains and the layers of the earth’s surface have not changed during the earth’s existence. Uniformitarianism says that these forces operate at the same rate today as they did in the past. A key statement in uniformitarianism is
the present is the key to the past. So by studying the rates of change in elements today, paleontologists conclude that the earth is very old.
Over eons of time, they say that lifeforms evolved into the species that we see today. Paleontologists generally say that the evidence from studying the earth does not support a catestrophic flood as recorded in Genesis. Many creationists disagree. Following is one such creationist the website http://www.arky.org/museum/search/pale/fdnpeu.htm
The Bible prophesies that people will scoff at the Biblical account of creation and the flood, saying that everything goes on just as it always has
