MEASUREMENT OF WORKS
INTRODUCTION: At the estimate stage the size of various components of work are assumed from the drawings and the approximate cost of every item each calculated based upon data from the department and schedule of rates applicable to the locality. At the construction stage all works executed must be measured and entered in a permanent record called measurement book and payment effected based on the quality of work done and the agreed rate.
MEASUREMENT BOOK: In this book which records the measurements of all the works and supply of materials for the purpose of payment. It is a very important original record of actual measurements. All measurement of books are serially numbered and pages of each book are machine number. The
register of measurement book, both name of the sub-Division to which it is issued. Thedate of its issue and the date of its return to the Divisional office will also be recorded in the register. The loss of measurement book is the serious p matter which should be reported to the higher officer and the person responsible will be punished.
IMPORTANCE • Measurement book is the initial record of all kinds of works. Measurement books are the basis of all accounts of quantities of work done by contractor and materials purchased for specific work.
• They must be maintained accurate and kept carefully so that they maybe produced in a court of lawn as evidence.
