S NEW ECONOMIC FRONTIER
Western African countries have high intensity in oil exports. Agricultural products are the dominant exports from Eastern African countries to Asia.
Although Africa’s imports from Asia are diversified in comparison, the number of suppliers in Asia is not as high as one would expect if focusing on specific product groups. Only a few Asian countries have large shares of
African import markets. Of Africa’s total machinery and transport equipment imports from Asia, two-thirds are from Japan and China. Thailand, India, and
