Would can be used to make a statement more tentative. It is typically used with appear, seem and suggest.

Would is sometimes used to refer to how a past situation later developed in the future. In such cases the simple past could also be used, but not will.

Would + infinitive (not would have + past participle) is used in indirect speech to report what someone has said.

Would can be used to report a habit (a series of repeated actions) in the past particularly in reference to someone’s behavior use of the
