COMPREHENSION PASSAGE
A person is said to be suffering from fever when his body temperature has risen above normal, and the rise is not due to exercise or hot surroundings. In a sick person, the in temperature is caused by toxins set free by enzymes in the brain, so that it no longer works efficiently. More often, the toxins cause chemical changes in the body fluids, which eventually result in blood being drained from the skin so that no heat is lost by radiation and the skin feels cold. Thisis in torn stimulates the cold receptors in the skin and heat is produced by muscular activity. This is why someone suffering from fever shiver. Gradually the heat loss and the heat production becomes roughly equal again, but the body temperature stays at a higher level than normal.
