Superb fresh MUH, pristine original gum. Only small number U examples are recorded & 1 mint example (which was offered for sale by a Melbourne dealer in 2011 for $15,000), plus there was a MUH cnr blk of 4 which has now sadly been split & from which this stamp comes. ACSC 265a cat $5,000+ for used (in 2005), SG 253aw cat £5500+ for U, so MUH has do be at least double, so £11,000. Important discovery & certificate can be obtained on request. The upper margin shows the watermark very nicely from the front & thus a most desirable example (in auction 294 we sold the UR cnr margin example for $8150). (P) $4000 $7000

The earliest is a reg air cover pre-paying airmail from Perth to Adelaide, other reg & censored noted with a wide range of airmail labels inc 1940 with the label obliterated (not jusqu'a), presumably because air service no longer available. Most flown by Imperial Airways, 8 involved in delays due to engine or other mechanical problems, inc SE199 where “Corio” received tail damage at Tiberias (Palestine) 4 Dec 1939, necessitating transfer of mail to “Coogee” following day -plus 2 to NZ. Mostly interrupted or delayed Imperial Airways flights (details lightly pencilled on reverse), some confirmed by transit or Australian b/s, earliest (3 Feb 1934 reg at Querceta) carried on eventful IE254 Singapore service, which was delayed at Brindisi due to adverse weather, mails unusually went by rail from Alexandria to Cairo, & delayed at Rutbah & Basra due to engine trouble. 1940 (censored) delayed by mechanical problems at Batavia, others inc delays due to adverse weather etc. F-VF, odd fault.
