Original black & white portrait of the great American photographer Ansel Adams with original presentation signature by Adams, dated 11-11-68 and taken by Redlands, California, photographer, Jim (James) Sloan, to whom the portrait is inscribed with narrow black felt pen. Image size 7 1/8" x 9 1/16". This photo was professionally applied by the Perma Plaque Company to wooden plaque board & lightly coated with an impervious solution. The Perma Plaque Company has long been famous for preserving valuable objects. Since the taking of the photo (and presumably the placing of it on the board soon thereafter) and during the many years your seller has owned the photo, there is no visible evidence of any discoloration or degradation to the photo. Board size: 9 7/8" x 11 7/8". Gold trim. A unique item & a great Adams collectible. This portrait of Adams appear (without the presentation) on page 64 in Sloan's book, More Faces + Faces, published in 1970. Large folio (19" x @26", opens to double that), 4pp. One unrelated illus. Many ads. Page 2 includes about four-fifths column which leads with the attack on Bexar & primarily reports on the defeat at the Alamo. It reports the deaths of Crockett, Bowie, & Travis. Second part of the column is credited to New Orleans Bulletin & has reports that Bowie & Travis killed themselves. A letter from Sam Houston to J. W. Fanning, Jr., "Commanding at Goliad", is printed. This paper on the masthead bills itself as "A Family Newspaper, Devoted to Literature, Science, Morality, News, Agriculture, and Amusement." This original copy in remarkably good condition with minor split at a couple of folds & short edge tears on second leaf. Very little foxing. A rare Alamo related item. (#1506003) $209.30

This item is a typed, reproduced, & bound copy of an elaborate promotional for the famous movie starring John Wayne, Richard Widmark, Lawrence Harvey, Richard Boone, Chill Wills, Joan O'Brian, Ken Curtis, Frankie Avalon, et. al . It includes lists of cast, characters, & film makers, & has chapters on the Alamo's historical background, data on the heroes (including a complete roster of those who died & where they were from), women of the Alamo, preparation for filming, vignettes about the cast, author of the screenplay, & more. It also includes "John Wayne's Salute to Texas," & "John Ford's Tribute to 'The Alamo.'" The photos alone make this a desirable book, & include such exposures as The Duke (Producer & Director) behind a camera calling for "Action!" The well-known & highly esteemed Wisconsin writer & folklorist, Robert E. Gard, prior to his Wisconsin years took up the directorship of the Alberta Folklore & Local History project in 1943.
