  1. APPRECIATION

Distinguished Members, I am sincerely obliged, for many reasons, the greatness of which may perhaps be that, I will not have opportunity of another Annual General Meeting to, as the Registrar/Chief Executive of your Institute, openly express the depth of my gratitude to you all. In the first instance, you gave me the opportunity to serve you; and in the second, you tenaciously upheld me with your prayers, guided, encouraged, co-operated and supported me during my tenure as your Chief Executive and indeed, since my joining the service of the Institute, over fifteen (15) years ago. How time flies!

Ladies and Gentlemen, you deemed me fit, worthy and reposed a lot of confidence in me to be of service to you and the galaxy of the Institute’s stakeholders. I have played my part and about to leave the stage. What is left, as I step aside very soon, obviously before the next AGM, is history.

I have in many respects benefited immensely from my role-play in the Institute and the banking and finance industry. Not least are the added experiences, exposures, challenges and lessons learnt.

For all of the above and certainly much more, I thank you, all members of our revered Institute, the Founding Fathers and Council Members (inclusive of the President/Chairman of Council and other Office Holders). You individually and collectively took the onerous responsibility of shepharding what is today, The Institute. I remain grateful to you all.

I hereby profusely thank the management and staff of the Institute. We entered the ship of the Institute at a time and have remained steadfastly together till now. We jointly struggled with challenges and any recorded successes were the results of our joint efforts. That the ship is neither on standstill nor on backward movement is an eloquent testimony to your stewardship. As our ship archors temporarily ashore, I step out with good and life-long memories of your overwhealming support, co-operation, loyalty and, most of importantly, tolerance of my obvious weaknesses. I make just one more request of you out of the numerous in the past, that is, that you uphold and take to higher levels the already flying flag of our noble Golden Institute. The successful journey to Centenary is entrusted to and rests in your able hands. I know you are well able to deliver.

Since joining the Institute, Ladies and Gentlemen, I have had the rare privilege and opportunity to work, albeit harmoniously and successfully, with some of the Founding Fathers and very Senior Members of the Institute, eight (8) constituted Governing Councils, eight (8) Presidents/Chairmen, one (1) Registrar/CEO, three (3) Governors and one Ag. Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, two (2) Managing Directors/CEOs of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, numerous Managing Directors/CEOs of Banks and other Financial Institutions, Subsectoral Associations and Committees in the industry as well as local and international organisations, especially the Alliance of African Institutes of Bankers (AAIOB) and World Conference of Banking Institutes (WCBI). I thank you all heartily, for the honour of having me work with you.

As many of you may appreciate, the hand of the Almighty God has remained constant and very visible in all the undertakings of the Institute. In His will have been our accomplishments. I am sincerely and humbly grateful to Him for graces, which include divine direction, guidance, good health, sound mind and peace. To Him be all the Glory!

Finally, giving vote of thanks has become part of me as the Institute has made a professional of me in the regard. That accounts for my seeming high emotion in rendering this aspect of the report. I want to assure you all that I cherish my Life Fellowship of our great Institute and so, I cannot avoid being seen in Bankers House again. Thank you all for being there for me, always. Thank you very much!
