ALVERIDGEA: The Legend of the Lonely Dog
    Ivan Clarke
Arthur Snout might be small, un-houndish, and lonely, but he also has a very special gift – a voice that will bring harmony to the kingdom of Alveridgea, uniting hounds and cats for the first time in centuries…

Another time, another world. Port Alveridge, nestled on the edge of the sparkling Esparrow Sea, is a town divided. Cats and dogs who once fought ancient battles now live as uneasy neighbours in segregated districts, with the town ruled for the greater good of Felines.

Into this hotbed of simmering rivalry steps an orphan hound - Arthur Snout - deposited on the steps of the Alveridge County Orphanage. A small loner, Arthur is bullied by the other houndlings. And their nickname of 'Lonely Dog' soon sticks. Lonely Dog has a special gift, however, a gift for music that crosses boundaries, styles, and even species...
The Lonely Dog phenomenon began life in New Zealand, when Ivan Clarke’s series of paintings featuring the Lonely Dog and selling in gallery shows to international collectors, met with such demand that he decided to bind his supplementary sketches and notes on Lonely’s imagined native country of Alveridgea into a book.

The eighteen month long process of re-creating the entire world of Alveridgea in one cohesive whole, gathering the many illustrations, sketches and storylines of Lonely Dog's world resulted in one enormous volume - leather bound, weighing 4.3kgs and costing NZ$60,000 - an original work of art that has nearly sold out of its 1000 copy print run. You can discover more of this extraordinary story and take a look at the world of Alveridgea at www.lonelydog.com

Atlantic’s gorgeously designed and lavishly illustrated edition, will charm and entertain adults and children alike.
