About your speakers...

Maryann Palmeter has over 30 years of extensive technical and executive level experience gained through her work with federal government contractors and a large, academic physician practice. She is employed with the University of Florida Jacksonville Physicians, Inc. as the director of physician billing compliance and is responsible for providing professional direction and oversight to the billing compliance program of the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. She is board-certified in health care compliance through the Health Care Compliance Association. She served on the AAPC’s National Advisory Board from 2011-2013 and was subsequently selected to serve as the National Advisory Board secretary for the 2013-2015 term. She was named the AAPC’s 2010 “Member of the Year.” She currently holds the office of education officer with the Jacksonville, FL local chapter and has served in numerous officer positions since joining the AAPC in 1999.

Shawn Leatherman, BA, BS, DC, CCST*, CCSP®* is a chiropractic physician, devoted husband, father of two boys and an avid seeker of knowledge. He grew up in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio playing many different sports and always wanting to be outside. He started his educational career with the idea of helping others with a focus in psychology before advancing to Chiropractic. For the last five years, he has shifted his focus from the clinical aspect of healthcare to becoming well-versed in guiding others through the challenges of personal growth and how they relate to becoming and staying healthy and free from chronic disease. Today he is the director of Clinical Operations at HealthSource Chiropractic and practices with his wife, Dr. Sarah Leatherman, and his associate Dr. David Bak.

Dr. Sarah Leatherman is a successful Chiropractic Physician and business owner of HealthSource Chiropractic in our community for 12 years, with a clinical focus on chiropractic care for pregnant women and nutritional education. She recently launched a new business, Integrity Weight Loss Center. She has been married to her husband and business partner, Dr. Shawn Leatherman, for 14 years and is the proud mother of 2 amazing and energetic sons.  Professionally, she was recognized by her professors with a Clinic Service Award while interning for her doctorate degree.  Recently, she was awarded one of the Top 10 HealthSource Franchisees out of nearly 400 clinics and placed 2nd in a women’s bikini fitness competition at age 38. She is passionate about living joyfully and positively influencing and lifting up the women around her. Today, she is excited to share her secret to success “Living the Interval 1-2-3 Lifestyle: an Operations Calendar for the Working Woman (How to be Productive with your time, not ‘Busy’) “.

Dr. David Bak grew up in Canton, Michigan where he played ice hockey with aspirations of playing in the NHL. Dr. Bak graduated from Life University with Cum Laude honors earning a bachelor’s of science in biology and doctorate of chiropractic. Dr. Bak focused his studies on structural spinal rehabilitation and sports chiropractic techniques. Soon after graduating, Dr. Bak worked as team chiropractor for Life University’s ice hockey program. Dr. Bak is certified in Chiropractic BioPhysics® structural spinal rehabilitation and is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician®. Dr. Bak serves as an authority on spinal rehabilitation and athletic performance as well as injury prevention.

Rose is very knowledgeable and proactive in correct coding and compliance. She has many years of experience managing auditors and coders; personally auditing multispecialty outpatient clinics; coding multispecialty outpatient clinics; and educating providers, clinicians, and coders on coding and documentation requirements. Having several years of experience working with numerous HIM directors, Coding Supervisors, and staff she especially appreciates the great opportunity to be part of the process of quality coding directly affecting the services continuum of excellent care.

Shawn Leatherman, BA, BS, DC, CCST*, CCSP®* is a chiropractic physician, devoted husband, father of two boys and an avid seeker of knowledge. He grew up in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio playing many different sports and always wanting to be outside. He started his educational career with the idea of helping others with a focus in psychology before advancing to Chiropractic. He was a dedicated student honored with induction to the Gold Key honor society while at The University of Cincinnati, and The National Dean’s List while at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City.
Dr. Leatherman was additionally listed in the Biltmore Who’s Who, and has completed over 1500 continuing education hours and post-doctoral training, including certifications in Spinal Trauma, Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, Auto Crash Reconstruction, Motor Vehicle Crash Forensic Risk Analysis, MPI Spine and Extremity Diagnostics, Manipulation Under Anesthesia, Nutrition, Functional Neurology, Sports Injury & Conditioning, Physical and Structural Rehabilitation, Child Passenger Safety and attained National Fellow Status in Chiropractic Biophysics.
For the he last five years, Dr. Leatherman has shifted his main focus from the clinical aspect of healthcare, to becoming well-versed in guiding others through the challenges of personal growth and how they relate to becoming and staying healthy and free from chronic disease. He attends yearly training on personal growth, leadership, mastering communication, as well as advanced chiropractic and rehabilitation protocols. Dr. Leatherman has a five year experience in a National Mastermind group of doctors and business owners as an active participant and 2 additional years of experience as a moderator for a Regional Mastermind of the same demographic. This has helped him to better communicate and lead patients through the difficulties of poor health toward improving their health outcomes.
He currently resides with his family in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, enjoys any activity on or near the water or watching his boys play sports. He is the director of Clinical Operations at Integrity Chiropractic and practices with his wife, Dr. Sarah Leatherman, and his associate Dr. David Bak.

Dr. Bak grew up in Canton, Michigan where he played ice hockey with aspirations of playing in the NHL. Dr. Bak benefitted from chiropractic care throughout his hockey career, from which he attributes much of his competitive edge. He attended Life University for undergraduate and graduate studies under a hockey and golf scholarship as a result of his athletic accomplishments.

Dr. Bak graduated from Life University with Cum Laude honors earning a bachelor’s of science in biology and doctorate of chiropractic. Dr. Bak focused his studies on structural spinal rehabilitation and sports chiropractic techniques. Soon after graduating, Dr. Bak worked as team chiropractor for Life University’s ice hockey program.

Dr. Bak is certified in Chiropractic BioPhysics® structural spinal rehabilitation and is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician®. In 2013, he was invited to present research on spinal biomechanics at the International Conference of Spinal Manipulation. Also in 2013, Dr. Bak presented spinal research at the 35th Annual Chiropractic BioPhysics® Symposium. In 2014, He worked with former Russian Olympic trainer, Vladimir Chubinsky, presenting research on the benefits of heavy load isometric training programs to various NHL organizations. In 2015, Dr. Bak was invited to attend NHL training camps as a free agent for Detroit Redwings and Carolina Hurricanes affiliates. In 2016, Dr. Bak accepted the role of team chiropractor for the National Rugby League Atlanta Rhinos and is working with Emory University on spinal biomechanics research.



In practice, Dr. Bak serves as an authority on spinal rehabilitation and athletic performance as well as injury prevention. He is involved in conducting research with other health care professionals.
