UNIVISION 34’S “Liga de Campeones” (League of Champions)

Scholarship



UNIVISION 34’S “Liga de Campeones” Scholarship is designed to motivate Latino youth in the Atlanta area to pursue higher education. Each month starting in November, 2011, and ending in May, 2012, Univision will review complete application packages received. Univision and the scholarship sponsors will select two (2) applicants each month to receive the $1,000 scholarship subject to the terms herein. The selection of the scholarship recipients shall be based on the student’s academic success, athletic achievement and/or involvement in the community, as well as on the higher education desires of the student.

Each month starting in November 2011, and ending in May, 2012, Univision will review complete application packages received.

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) is pleased to announce this scholarship opportunity. Get In the Way Project – Video Contest


Enter this video contest to help get the word out about teen dating violence prevention. The project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). You are asked to make a short creative video that promotes the ways teenagers can ensure safe and positive relationships. All teens should be free from abuse – no one deserves to be verbally, physically, or sexually abused. Create a 60 second video about teen dating abuse and prevention and what teens can do to stop it in its tracks. It is important that your video show how important it is for teens to make dating violence their business. Top winning videos will be featured in the product that is being created by the CDC. Susan G. Komen Scholarship Fund

These awards aid college students facing significant financial burdens due to the loss of a parent (or guardian) to breast cancer or their own breast cancer diagnosis at age 25 or younger. The scholarship awards $10,000 per year (for up to four years) to a student to attend a state university in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. Komen scholarship recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service, financial need and demonstrated leadership potential. Optimist Club Essay Contest

Columbus State University Honors Scholarships

Honors scholarships are competitively awarded each year to entering freshmen who meet the minimum CSU Honors Program admission requirements. Freshmen are eligible for annual, renewable scholarships of up to $2,500, which may be renewed for up to four-years. Columbus State University- Servant Leadership Program

Awarded to students who have demonstrated leadership potential by holding leadership positions in school and/or community organizations and/or a demonstrated commitment to participating in community service. Students must also demonstrate potential for academic success. The award is $2,500 per year, given in four payments. Awards are renewable for up to four years, given that the recipient maintains the obligations of the program. Georgia Southern University Scholarships

Scholars’ Day will be held on February 24 and 25, 2012, and is by invitation only. This event is for students who have a 1200 SAT score (critical reading and math only) or a 27 composite ACT score. Students who are selected for this event will have the opportunity to interview with faculty and staff for all scholarships for which they are eligible. 

The Southern LEAD Conference will be held on March 3, 2012, and is for students who have shown outstanding leadership in their high schools and involvement in their communities. Students must have an 1100 SAT (critical reading and math) or a 24 composite ACT and a 3.0 GPA in order to be considered for the Southern LEAD Scholarship. 



Students who meet the requirements for Scholars’ Day or Southern LEAD need to submit a scholarship application and complete their admissions application by February 1, 2012.

Don & Kathryn Glover Educational Scholarship Fund

This is a new scholarship offered through the Community Foundation that is available to graduating seniors at FCHS. It will award one $500 scholarship this year to a student pursuing a degree in education. The application can be found online at www.ngcf.org. Click on the link “Scholarships” at the top of the page for a listing. Applications should be submitted to Mrs. Santiago in the counseling office. If you sent them directly to the foundation, it is okay, they will get them back to the school for consideration.

Georgia FFA Scholarship: James G. Harris Memorial Scholarship

The James G. Harris Memorial Scholarship is for men and women interested in pursuing a degree in agriculture. The scholarship is given in honor of the late James. G. Harris. James G. Harris was a dedicated agriculture teacher, FFA advisor, and later, Vocational Supervisor at Forsyth County High School. He made many outstanding contributions to his community and state. This scholarship honors his memory. To apply for the James G. Harris Memorial Scholarship, complete this application form, including an advisor’s statement and principal’s signature. Submit the completed application and a 1 page resume to the State FFA Office. Georgia Southwestern University Scholarships

They offer numerous scholarships for freshmen who plan on attending Georgia Southwestern University in Fall 2012. To apply for all scholarships an incoming freshman must be accepted to the college and complete the Freshman Scholarship Application (available on the Georgia Southwestern website or in the FCHS Counseling office). Review of scholarships will take place immediately following the priority deadline.

Students are encouraged to apply for the Vernon E. Carne scholarship – first place is $3000, second place $2000, third place is $1000 and then there are top 8 runners up who will each get $500. Program focuses on a short essay of 250 words or less. Lambda Alpha Theta – Delta Alpha Chapter @ UGA “La Mujer Universal Scholarship”

Applications are available in the counseling office for this $250 scholarship. This is a local organization giving money to one student who has a minimum C+ average, participated in at least one service or sports organization, be a female graduating senior from Forsyth Central High School. Carolyn Gravitt Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given in memory of Mrs. Carolyn Gravitt. As the First Lady of the City of Cumming for 27 years, she was dedicated to her family and to serving the people of Cumming and Forsyth County. Student applying for this scholarship must be a US citizen, Forsyth County Resident for one year, attending an accredited college or vocational school, passed the GHSGT, and be a graduate of FCHS in the year of scholarship application. Applicants for the scholarship will be chosen on the basis of anticipated major in Family & Consumer Sciences or Cosmetology; academic achievement; participation in extracurricular activities and community service, good school attendance. The application is available in the counseling office for interested students.

DeSana Educational Fund, Inc. 2012

The DeSana Scholarship is given to a student who is a resident of Forsyth County for a minimum of one year prior to submission of application; be accepted for enrollment as a full time student in an accredited college or vocational school; be a Forsyth County high school graduate in the year applying for scholarship. Applications will be considered on the basis of financial need demonstrated by leadership skills, extracurricular activities, academic performance, academic and other scholastic awards, and community involvement. Scholarship is chosen by a committee composed of the Board of Directors of the DeSana Educational Fund, Inc. Decisions are final. This is an award for $5,000 which will be awarded and distributed over a four year period. Please come and get an application from the counseling office if you are interested in applying. All details for this application are in the packet. Applications must be submitted by the deadline to the FCHS counseling office.

Odenza Marketing Scholarship

In order to apply for this $500 award you must write two small essays. To be considered eligible you must be between 16-25 by the deadline, submit answers to the essay questions which can be found on the application page, have at least one full year of college remaining at the time of the award, have a GPA of 2.5 or greater, be a citizen of the US or Canada. Gainesville State College Scholarships

GSC offers the Dean’s Scholarship to graduating seniors who plan to further their education at GSC. There is a scholarship competition that will take place on 4/28/2012 from 8:30 – 12:00pm on the Gainesville campus of GSC. The day will consist of a continental breakfast, interviews, campus tours and an informational session about Gainesville State College. The Dean’s Scholarship is a one year, non-renewable scholarship for Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters. The President’s Leadership Scholarship is renewable for a second year if the student successfully meets all program expectations. Any student who wishes to participate in this scholarship competition must apply to GSC by April 1, 2012, must be a first time freshman who enrolls full time for Fall 2012, must complete the FAFSA application by June 1, 2012, must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA AND a minimum combined SAT score of 1100 (Critical Reading & Math only), or an ACT of a 24; must return a completed application along with all attachments together to the office of admissions, postmarked no later than 4/13/2012 if mailed. Forsyth County Retired Educators Association Scholarship (FCREA)

7th Annual Scholarship for $750 to a deserving senior from one of the five eligible high schools who will be attending college in the Fall and who is planning to major in education. Applicants must be in good standing with their prospective school and must be planning to pursue a career in teaching. Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship

These scholarships are open to Georgia high school seniors who will be entering a Georgia college, university or trade school (two year program or more). CBA will award at least four $1,000 scholarships to this year's candidates of the Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship. The applications must be submitted to the Association through a CBA member community bank. This scholarship is open to women graduates seeking a career in education. Students must be attending college in Fall 2012 to become an educator. The award is for $500. Offers scholarships to Forsyth County graduating seniors. Applicants must plant to attend a college or university within the state of Georgia during the 2012-2013 academic year to pursue an undergraduate degree in agriculture or family and consumer sciences. Edward L. Woods Scholarship

This scholarship is for HS seniors preparing to graduate. It is an essay of 2000 words sponsored by the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). Bethel Memorial Scholarship through Chi Psi Fraternity.

This scholarship is for students who are attending Georgia Institute of Technology. It is for $1000 to a qualified young MAN entering Ga Tech in the Fall of 2012. The written application must be accompanied by an official transcript and must be postmarked by the deadline. Finalists must attend an interview during the month of June in the metro Atlanta area. Winner will be announced at a banquet in August. Applications are available in the counseling office, but must be mailed to the address on the application.

Lynn Anderson Memorial Scholarship 2012

Given each year to the female honor graduate who we think best exemplifies the character of Lynn herself. Lynn was tragically killed in an auto accident on her way home from school Memorial Day weekend 1984. To be eligible for the scholarship, you must write and submit an essay that addresses several points. Please see specific requirements on the application in the counseling office. All essays are due to Mrs. Santiago in the counseling office by the posted deadline. This is typically a $1000 scholarship paid directly to the college.

Run for a Reason Scholarship

Provides collegiate financial assistance for high school seniors who will be graduating from a Forsyth County School. A special road race in the Cumming City Park on May 19 will be held as a fundraiser for the scholarship. More participation in the race = more money that will be raised for the chosen scholarship recipient. This scholarship particularly pertains to students with at least a 2.5 GPA and those who participate in healthy lifestyle activities and extracurricular involvement. Will Davison Memorial Scholarship

Founded in memory of William Clay Davison who passed away on July 25, 2007 from SIDS. It has been important to his family that young people continue to have the ability to pursue professions and academic careers in fields that serve others. Established in July 2008 in memory of Joan Whitworthe. Joan was involved in working with individuals as an occupational therapist. She is recognized for her devotion in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to family & friends a memorial scholarship of $5000 has been created.
