2014-2015 Scholarships
Scholarship opportunities are posted as the counseling department becomes aware of them. Please use this page as one of several resources for searching scholarships as many opportunities are available. If you have any questions regarding any of the scholarships listed below see Mrs.LeFevre or your counselor.

Wendy’s High School Heisman

Wendy’s is looking for the next class of remarkable students who excel in academics, athletics, and community involvement.  The 2014 Wendy’s High School Heisman award application process is underway.  Now through October 3, 2014, class of 2015 graduating seniors can apply at www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com. 

To be eligible, a student must have maintained at least a ‘B’ grade point average, participated in one of the 27 sports officially sanctioned by the National Federation of State High School Associations, and demonstrated active involvement in his or her community.


National Winners receive:

  • Recognition during ESPN’s national telecast of the college Heisman Memorial Trophy presentation in New York City

  • A Wendy’s High School Heisman trophy and Heisman Patch

  • $10,000 for their high school

  • $500 Wendy’s gift card

GMS (Georgia Military Scholarship)

The GMS is a $70,000 full-ride scholarship and it is only available at The University of North Georgia (UNG). It requires students to commission as a second lieutenant in the Georgia Army National Guard after finishing college. It pays 100% of college costs, including; room, meals, tuition, fees, uniforms and books. In addition to the scholarship benefits, students who are offered this scholarship will make about $40,000 in pay and benefits over their four years in college. After commissioning, Guard lieutenants start at about $7,500 per year for training one weekend per month and two weeks during the summer.
Students do not have to enlist in the Guard prior to applying for the scholarship. However, they must enlist prior to 1 August 2015.

Sawnee Woman’s Club Scholarship

Sawnee Woman’s Club Education Department is now accepting High School Senior Scholarship Applications. Please apply for this college scholarship. First place is $2,000 and second place is $1,000.

Eligibility:

1. Must be a high school senior (male or female) entering in the Fall of 2015

2. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 GPA

Vernon E. Carne Scholarship

(Georgia United Credit Union)

Named for the founder of the Credit Union, the Vernon E. Carne scholarship focuses on a short essay of 250 words or less. This year’s topic is …

In addition, students should complete a Georgia United scholarship form and include a copy of their high school transcript and a letter of acceptance from the college or technical school they will attend.

Students (or their parents) must be members of Georgia United, and are encouraged to include information regarding financial need, scholastic standing, special achievements, and leadership.

Will Davison Memorial Scholarship

The Will Davison Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduating senior who: is good standing, has a minimum 2.8 GPA, and is pursuing a degree in the “helping field” or “profession of service to others”. Application coming soon!

FCREA Scholarship

The Forsyth County Retired Educators Association is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving senior from one of the five eligible high schools. Applicants must be in good standing at their respective schools and must be planning to pursue a career in teaching. Application coming soon

George W. Jenkins Scholarship

Emory is pleased to announce a new partnership with Publix Super Markets Charities to offer the George W. Jenkins Scholarship. The George W. Jenkins Scholarship is a four-year scholarship awarded to admitted first-year students who have overcome extraordinary difficulties. The Jenkins Scholarship is open only to U.S. citizens who will be graduating from high schools in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee (all of which are home to Publix Super Markets). The George W. Jenkins Scholarship was established through the generosity of Publix Charities in partnership with Emory University in honor of the innovative self-starter and civic minded Publix founder. The award includes full tuition, fees, on-campus room and board, and a stipend each semester. In addition, the scholarship provides a computer at the start of the program of study. Two incoming Emory College first-year students will be named the George W. Jenkins Scholars each academic year. The scholarship is renewable for four years of undergraduate study with students needing to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and full-time enrollment. Successful candidates will show in their application for admission purposeful engagement impacting their community, a strong work ethic, a history of overcoming significant adversity, and high financial need. All students who complete their application for admission and financial aid by our stated deadlines will be reviewed for this scholarship. Interested students must submit an additional essay emailed to Associate Dean of Admission, Giselle F. Martin (Giselle.martin@emory.edu) describing any special circumstances, specifically any history of overcoming significant adversity (500 word max). Please make sure to include your full name, date of birth, and either Common Application ID# or EMPLID in the email you send to Ms. Martin.

Jim and Jeanne DeSana Scholarship

The DeSana Scholarship will award and distribute a $5000 scholarship and it will be awarded and distributed over a four year period. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who can demonstrate financial need, leadership skills, extra-curricular activities, academic performance, academic and other scholastic awards and community involvement.
