| Chapter 1 A Seminar - Colloquium Contd.. Why have seminars? Seminars create opportunities to: - explore topics with different dimensional knowledge in depth;
- share ideas in a way that will advance your thinking;
- learn from other people's experiences and background knowledge;
- gain perspectives and points of view that you might not have otherwise considered;
- identify and sort out any misunderstandings.
Source: Brunel University, West London General Perspective • The idea behind the seminar system is to familiarize students more extensively with the basic idea of their chosen subject - To give them better Professional learning pace and platform
• Allow them to interact with the live examples that always occur during research or project work. • It is essentially a place where assigned readings are discussed, questions can be raised and debates can be facilitated. • It is relatively informal, at least compared to the lecture system of academic instruction. What is Workshop? - Introduction
A workshop is quite different. “In Computer Science or IT; It is a group working together, on a creative project, discussing a topic, or studying a subject.” Definition - In other words “Workshop means some learning experiences, hands on practices”
- ”A workshop is a hands-on learning experience, where you do as well as listen/learn.”
- Workshops tend to be smaller and more intense (penetrating) than seminars.
- This format often involves students practicing their new skills during the event under the watchful eye of the instructor.
