Seminar/workshop

Focusing on the role and position of women in South Africa since the first democratic elections in April 1994.


Exhibition by various South African Government Departments.

Focusing on the role of each Department in the transformation of South African society since 1994 and the role and function of Government and its institutions.

To take place at the Cultural Centre in Abidjan. South African groups to perform. To exhibited displays from the various South African government departments. Speakers from South Africa to discuss the negotiations that led to freedom, democracy and reconciliation. NEPAD socio economic changes and challenges will also be discussed. Attendees to include members of the diplomatic community, business contacts, government officials and members of the public.

Tourism Workshop

Egyptian electronic media team to visit South Africa and record tourist sights, which will be featured on Egyptian TV Channels during the Freedom Day week. Prior to flighting, a workshop will be conducted for travel agents and consumers, to give information and create greater awareness so that the flighted programme reinforces the given message.

Musical Performance by a South African Jazz Group / Traditional Dance Group


School Essay Competition

Among the local schools to create awareness about South Africa and promote cultural ties between South Africa and Egypt. The winners will be awarded a prize that entails a visit to South Africa, to be hosted by a South African school.


Model UN Debate

The Embassy will request the Cairo Model UN to hold a special debate on International Racism and the South African Experience

Showcasing the actions and visits undertaken by former President Mandela and other cadres of the liberation movement during the 1960's to invite support for the struggle against apartheid. The event will be preceded by a cocktail function to be addressed by speakers representing the African, Arab, European and American Missions in Rabat. To showcase videos e.g. on the Inauguration of former President Mandela, etc.

Involving other diplomatic missions and South Africans, residing in Morocco, to join in the festivities and to give inputs accordingly.
