Topic: Active Verb

An active verb is a verb whose subject is the person or thing that performs the action.

The subject of a sentence is the person or thing doing the action reported in a sentence. It can as well be the theme or what is talked about in a sentence. The agent is the subject carrying out the action; the doer. Therefore, a subject can as well be the agent ( the person or thing performing the action) of a sentence. Eg: Clinton killed a goat. In other words, the verb 'killed' is an active verb since its subject 'Clinton' is what performs the action of 'killing'. See the examples below:

2. My mother swept the living room. (swept)

3.Peter has accepted the gift. (has accepted)
