Conditioning of Broad stock: Before inducing the female fish, ensure it is stress free. It should be kept separately (male & female) for at least 24hrs before injecting. Inducing the Broad stock: Inject the female fish with the correct dose of ovaprim, this will enable the fish produce eggs in large quantities at the same time. To ascertain the volume of ovaprim to inject the fish with, weigh fish, and get ovaprim at the rate of 0.5ml/kg of fish, eg. if fish weighs 1.5kg, you’ll need 0.7ml of ovaprim. When injecting the fish, it should be held side of the person holding the tail. After injection, keep it back into the bio-change water and allow it to stay for 8 – 10hrs before stripping. It is advisable to inject the fish around 10 – 11pm at night, so that the stripping will be done around 8 – 9pm the next morning.
