Swanage's all weather lifeboat was tasked around lunchtime to assist a 14' speedboat reported as sinking off Old Harry Rocks. The boat had two people on board and they required immediate assistance. The lifeboat launched and was quickly on scene. The two people had been recovered from the water by a passing military RIB. They had then been joined by an RNLI Atlantic 85 that was on crew training in the area. The casualties were transferred to the warmth of the lifeboat's wheelhouse as they were very cold. The floating debris from the boat was collected up and the boat, which was virtually submerged, was taken in tow slowly back towards Swanage. Once back at the Town Council slipway a line was thrown ashore and the boat pulled on to the slipway to be recovered later. The casualties were landed ashore, given some safety advice by the Swanage Coastguard volunteers and some warm dry clothing. The lifeboat was released to return to station, washed down and made ready for further service.
