COACHING STAFF
JORY COUGHENOUR

Jory Coughenour pitched five years in the minors, reaching as high as AA, after setting a University of Pittsburgh record for innings as an amateur. Overall, he was 22-21 in the minor leagues.

In his sophomore year of college, Jory had a 2-2 record, one save and a 4.70 ERA. Coughenour won 5 and lost five as a senior, saving one and posting a 4.23 ERA. He had a 2.06 ERA in April, 20th-best in the NCAA, drawing some interest. Overall, he had fanned 154 batters in 233 IP in college and he set a Pitt record for innings pitched. His ERA was 4.23 overall and he had won 12 games. The Houston Astros selected Coughenour in the 20th round of the 2000 amateur draft, with the 607th pick. Assigned to the Auburn Doubledays, he had a 4-7, 5.06 record in his pro debut.

In 2001, Jory had a 11-5, 3.78 record for the Michigan Battle Cats. He started 14 games and relieved in 21 (saving two). walking just 22 in 126 1/3 IP. Coughenour improved further in 2002 - in 5 games with Michigan, he won one and saved three, with a 1.46 ERA and no walks in 12 1/3 IP. Promoted to the Round Rock Express, he had a 3-2 record with three saves and a 3.52 ERA.

Returning to Round Rock in 2003, he went 2-5 with 3 saves and a 7.09 ERA in 34 games. Sent down to the Salem Avalanche, he won one and saved one with a 2.08 ERA in 10 games, but his ERA was 4.16 and his WHIP 1.56. Moving to independent ball, Coughenour returned to his roots in southwestern Pennsylvania in 2004 with the Washington Wild Things, for whom he was 0-2 with a 4.57 ERA in five games.



PATRICK CUTSHALL

Patrick Cutshall played three years in the minors after being a four year starter for Mercyhurst College as an amateur. Overall, he finished his career with a .265 batting average in the minor leagues.

In his senior year of college, Patrick hit .400 and broke the single season records for hits (68), doubles (17), home runs (16) and runs batted in (72). Patrick still owns the career records for hits (236), home runs (28), runs batted in (189), runs (182) and is 2nd with a career .398 batting average. In 2009, he was inducted in to the Mercyhurst College Hall of Fame with his college coach Joe Jordano (Current University of Pittsburgh head coach).

The Houston Astros selected Cutshall in the 17th round of the 1997 amateur draft, with the 520th pick. Assigned to the Auburn Doubledays, he hit .297 and lead the New York Penn League with 23 doubles. Cutshall finished the season with 54 runs scored (2nd in the league), 130 total bases (3rd in the league) and was the only player to start all 72 games. In 1998, Patrick had a .246 batting average for the Michigan Battle Cats. He played in 114 games and was selected to play in the 1998 Midwest Baseball League All-Star game.

Returning to the Battle Cats in 1999, he struggled to stay healthy and only played in 8 games. Patrick left professional baseball and returned to his alma-mateur to coach at Mercyhurst College – North East campus. He coached two seasons for the Saints finishing with a 34-32 record and two appearances to the NJCAA Division II Regionals.

hits (37). Bryton was the only Sports Zone player with a home run at the Nationals in Virginia. Bryton was very versatile, he played

all three outfield positions as well as third base and shortstop. Bryton ran a 7.2 at theTriple Crown Nationals Showcase and was clocked

at 77 mph from the outfield.

This is Riley’s 4th season with the Sports Zone Baseball Academy. Riley played in 47 games, batted .324 and led the team with

10 stolen bases. Riley also pitched in 13 games and finished the season 5-3 with a 6.02 ERA. Riley pitched a complete game at the

Lansing Lugnut Stadium against the Diamond Stars (IN) baseball team and was clocked consistently between 80-83 mph. At the WPEBL

Showcase, Riley ran a 7.2 60 yard dash and was clocked at 79 mph from the outfield (a day after pitching a complete game). At the Triple

Crown Nationals in Richmond, Virginia, he ran a 7.1 60 yard dash and threw 81 mph from the mound.

games, finished the season 6-3 with a 3.06 ERA and led the team in innings pitched as well as ERA. For his high school team, he was a varsity starter and WPIAL All Section as a freshman and a sophomore. At the Triple Crown Nationals in Richmond, Virginia, he ran a 7.3 60 yard dash and threw 84 mph from the mound.

Todd was also the starting third baseman for his local Rochester High School as a sophomore. Todd ran a 7.3 60 yard dash at the fall tryouts and was clocked at 75 mph..
