Long Island Happy Hour Location "Change in Latitude"
Metro Parrothead Club area "happy hours" have changed latitudes (and attitudes) over the years, and after much discussion, it is time to change the Long Island monthly Happy Hour. Ed Travers has now been booked at The Wharf in Oakdale, NY through September 2009. Therefore, the March 21 Happy Hour will be held at The Wharf and feature Ed Travers LIVE! If all works well with The Wharf, it will become the "new" permanent home of the Long Island Happy Hour. The Wharf offers great amenities that Zoinks does not offer, including WATERFRONT VIEWS!! What better place for a Parrothead Club Happy Hour, than a venue that sports waterfront views? In addition (and more importantly), unlike Zoinks, The Wharf offers plenty of safe parking. Back in January, President Obama called for volunteers to "Renew America Together". Perhaps this was part of the "Change We Need", but not necessarily for METRO's. You see, we've answered the call for service for close to sixteen years (three presidential administrations). It's definitely been a bipartisan effort as litter seems to accumulate on the sides of the road no matter which Party is in power.
That said, it's time to issue a "Call to Pointy Sticks" for that annual Rite of Spring, our Road Clean-up.
At 10AM on Saturday April 25, METRO's from both sides of the aisle (remember to look both ways before crossing the aisle) will gather in the Bridgehampton Commons parking lot near the King Kullen supermarket. After a quick restroom break and roll call, we'll head over to our adopted highway, Route 114 in East Hampton where we'll pass out pointy sticks and orange bags. Then we'll break into subcommittees and go about the task at hand, cleaning up litter from our 2.5 miles of roadway.
And, if public service is not reward enough in and if itself, participants will qualify for those all important "Brownie points" which will allow METROs to either purchase Club Tickets for Jimmy Buffett's upcoming concert tour or, if you wish to move to Illinois, a seat in the U.S. Senate. (Well, "brownie points" and a donation of a few million dollars... although there seems to be some confusion on whether the concert ticket OR a Senate seat costs more.)
But, back to the Road Clean-up. The date, April 25 is just a few days after Earth Day. What could be a better gift for our "Mother"?
So put on your sensible shoes and grab your work gloves and come on down, or out as the case may be, and participate in the Spring Road Clean-Up.

Winter's almost over and now our thoughts are turning to fair weather events, like the Annual Family Picnic.
Snow was on the ground and temperatures hovered in the upper teens when, in an attempt to chase away the Wintertime Blues, we called the Town of East Hampton Office of Parks and Recreation to reserve Fresh Pond Park, in Amagansett on Saturday, July 25. We took the advice of that half-frozen shaman that Jimmy found up in the Himalayas and we just "Thought hot".
Once again, Lon Ormanian has stepped forward (truth be told, everyone else took two steps back and Lon didn't realize it until it was too late) and offered to organize our picnic efforts.
It's a little early to contact Lon, we just wanted you to mark your calendars because we know that those summertime weekends fill up fast.
