A STUDY ON TURMERIC PRODUCTION

Conclusion
The foregoing analysis of the production and productivity of turmeric was positive in all the cases except in the case of area under turmeric in kerala. As compared to the area the rate of yield growth and total production was high inmost of the cases. So in order to meet the domestic and international demand the production of turmeric has to be improved through increasing productivity. The increase in the productivity can be achieved through improved technologies and by solving the problems faced by the farmers such as financial assistance, timely availability of inputs such as seed material, fertilizers etc. More importance should be given to the research and development pertaining to turmeric. Looking into the importance of turmeric and export earnings and domestic needs government should increase and stabilize its outlay of funds for turmeric under the spice development programs If these problems are taken care then there is avast scope to increase the production of turmeric in future.
Suggestions
1. High priority has to be assigned to increase the production and productivity of turmeric. This is necessary to meet the increasing domestic demand on the one hand and to maintain the monopoly supply position at the international market on the other.
2. The farmers were generally following extensive cultivation because turmeric was an unpredictable crop in bringing profit. Since the area is inelastic the only way is to go for intensive cultivation in order to maximise the production.
3. More emphasis has to be given for evolving location specific varieties of turmeric. The seed producing agencies have to be created in the turmeric growing areas of each state, so that the burden of seed transport and nonavailability of certified seeds would not be a problem for the farmers.
