Please help make this the safest summer on record by promoting summer-long enforcement of safety belt and drunk driving laws.
The goal: prevent a traffic death each week this summer.

Other things you can do to help:

  • Organize a child safety seat inspection (To find CPS technicians, visit www.nhtsa.gov/cps/cpsfitting/)

  • Conduct a local safety belt use survey and publicize the results

  • Include an article in newsletters, newspapers, magazines, etc. (available at www.michigan.gov/ohsp)

  • Make a “saved by the belt” presentation (submit names to Lynn Sutfin at OHSP sutfinl@michigan.gov; in the Upper Peninsula submit names to Jamie Dolan at dolanj@michigan.gov)

  • Utilize a sled or rollover convincer at a fair or community event (Information available at http://www.michigan.gov/documents/Convincer-RolloverAvailability_65149_7.pdf)

  • Send a letter to the editor supporting safety belt and drunk driving enforcement.

  • Have your local government agency issue a proclamation in support of traffic enforcement efforts (download sample at www.michigan.gov/ohsp)

  • Utilize “fatal vision” goggles which simulate different BAC levels. Available to law enforcement only. (email request to Lynn Sutfin at sutfinl@michigan.gov)

  • Determine if a BATmobile (blood alcohol testing van) is available locally to heighten awareness of drunk driving enforcement (BATmobiles are housed by the Holland Police Department, Marquette Police Department, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office)
