The Italian Cultural Foundation at Casa Belvedere Debuts New Photo Exhibit “The Greats” during the annual “Festa D’Italia / Motori D’Italia” event

September 27th & 28th
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Thursday, September 18, 2014 –The Italian Cultural Foundation at Casa Belvedere is proud and excited to debut for the first time ever a special photo exhibit titled “The Greats!” featuring and capturing moments in time of Italian-American Sports Legends during its annual celebration of all things Italian – Festa d’Italia / Motori d’Italia on Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th.
More than 100 sports memorabilia photos, every one signed by the athlete, are part of a unique exhibit, a first on Staten Island, that chronicle the rich history of Italian Americans in the world of sports spanning the 20th Century.

There are household names, for sure, but many even the most diehard sports enthusiast might not recognize. They range from an original love letter from boxing great Rocky Marciano to his soon-to-be wife, to baseball stars like Joe DiMaggio, to hockey stars like the Espositio Brothers, to jockeys like Eddie Arcaro, to race car drivers like Mario Andretti, to cyclists like Susan Notorangelo, to football stars like Gino Marchetti, to tennis stars like Lea Pericoli. Each photo, obtained by Casa Belvedere from the Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in Chicago, carries the history of that athlete.

“Staten Island has always been a community that recognizes how important sports has been and still is -- in the history of America,” said Advance Executive Editor Brian Laline, who worked with Casa Belvedere in assembling the exhibit. “What better way to share that history than through the role that so many great Italian Americans played to make that so? Especially in our community, where Italian Americans have played such a major role in enriching Staten Island."

Visitors are encouraged to come and view this wonderful exhibit during the weekend. The mansion will be open from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturday and from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Sunday. In addition to the exhibit, the weekend will showcase a myriad of new and classic Italian performance and luxury automobiles and feature continuous music and entertainment by some of today’s young new talent as well as seasoned performers singing traditional Italian and American favorites. During the festivities there will also be Italian specialty foods and pastries, wine tasting, exhibits, culinary demonstrations, games, rides, crafts, silent auction, raffles and more.

Sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available with wide range visibility and distribution. Please contact the office for information and a participation form. The foundation is also seeking volunteers for the event.

Casa Belvedere is located at 79 Howard Ave., in the Staten Island community of Grymes Hill. Admission to any one day of the event is only $10 for adults; children age 12 and under, accompanied by an adult, are admitted free of charge.
